Hi All
Just wanted to get some opinions, at the moment we have planned to set up baby in the sunroom that comes off the front of our bedroom. We do have another room at the end of the house we could use but would mean I would want to move our bedroom to our other spare bedroom aswell. (also meaning we will be in a seperate room to the baby which i dont really have a opinion on one way or the other) My main concern with having baby in the sunroom is we live next to quite a busy road and across that road is the railway tracks (on the Hutt Line) so there are trains going past around every half hour slowing down to every hour or two at night till about midnight. They are fairly loud and although we are used to this noise now i am wondering if it could cause issues with baby sleeping. Any opinions greatly appreciated though i don't expect quick responses at the mo  -------------

Nah, you got used to it and so will the baby. I wonder if you might need to swaddle in case they have a startle reaction to the noise or if they'd just take it in their stride?? ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

Baby will easily adjust. Kaela can sleep in the lounge with the older girls running around her!

yea babies adapt to everything. we live on hutt rd which is really busy too although far enough away from the hutt line so dont hear the trains much. we have actually had baby sleeping in the lounge so he adapts to noise, i have been vaccuuming under his bed while he is asleep since the day after he was born. having kids used to noise is a great thing. lol. no having to tiptoe round the house -------------

yeah i was wayyyyyy too quiet with Ethan.. we live close to railway lines and a lot of other stuff woke him up(i was wayyy too quiet) but never that as it was the same from birth.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

I used to vaccum under the hammock while Jack was asleep in it! IMO it is good for baby's to get used to noise as it won't always be quiet when you go out. It doesn't seem to be until they get older that noises distract them and either wake or keep them awake ------------- Lindsey

We lived right next to train tracks at our last place (as in just across the fence, less than 50m away), the house used to shake when the big freight trains came thru in the middle of the night, but we all just got used to it, Maya would sleep thru anything. Even now we're on a main arterial road with heavy traffic and the girls aren't bothered by it. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Baby will be fine. We live just over from the start of the desert road and hear trucks and trains all the time and the trains are further over from the road. I grew up living next door to the main trunk line with the trains and had no issues with sleep - so my mother tells me. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Baby will adapt , might be a bit startled the first couple of times, but he/she will adapt .
I vaccuumed around Caitlyn from the first day she was at home , its not exactly quiet in the womb , so they are used to a bit of noise . My friend wouldn't flush the toilet if her daughter was sleeping, very annoying if you needed to do , um , number 2s haha ! -------------

We used to live on a main road, with the railway across the other side. It was noisey constantly. It never bothered Rico or Gia. I think it's good to have consistant noise when a baby is around, gets them used to sleeping through it. My sister, my goodness, HAS to have her house sooo quiet for her 3 yr old to have her afternoon nap!!!!!! She literally tiptoes around her house. Closes every possible door, takes the phone off the hook, won't turn the jug on, etc etc. She's really bad. I needed to use her fax a few weeks ago and made the mistake of turning up while 3 yr old was sleeping. Even though the door was closed to her bedroom, and the doors to lounge/kitchen were closed, my sister said she'd have to fax this form for me, after 3 yr old wakes up!! And she was pretty much whispering to me. If her husband is home when daughter is sleeping, he has to go next door to my mums to use the toilet. Yeah, I think she's a little Cookoo
My point is, don't make it unpleasant for yourself, your Dp or anyone visiting when baby is asleep. You still need to "live" as well, and not put everything on hold while baby is napping. ------------- My babies: R (9),G (7), J (5) http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">
