*Sigh*
Jackson has given up solids. Completely. Won't even open his mouth, even for old favourites. Won't put any finger food in his mouth.
I don't need this!!
I know that being sick, and teething, can put them off solids. But this has been going on for weeks now (he still has the remnants of a cold), and is getting worse rather than better. He's never taken off on solids, but now he is just not interested in food at all.
The only other thing that has recently changed is that we are concentrating his bottles by 25%, due to ongoing poor weight gain, and switched again to Neocate.
I wonder if he is just not hungry, because of the concentration? But he is only drinking 650mls per day (equivalent of about 780mls with the amount of formula), so it is not heaps.
When is this going to end?!? Sorry, I don't really have any questions, just need to vent. I wish he could talk and tell me what the problem is.

That's sounds like a pretty good amount of formula - I'm pretty certain that Ollie wouldn't have been drinking more than that at 8 months.
Are you offering food before fluid? Given that he's not that keen on the food and you think he might be full after formula you could try offering something you know he is keen on before you offer a bottle? The other thing I've found useful is to just go back to foods you know they like even if they are puree. I've also tried really hard to give some control to Ollie (which I find quite hard because I'm a bit of control freak!) so if I know he'll eat bread because he's the one holding it then if other things wont' work, bread it is.
Good luck - feeding can be so stressful when it's not working.

some babies just dont want or need as much as we think they should. eden for example would only ever have about 4 breastfeeds a day, from the time she came home from the hospital, and no matter what i did she wouldnt take more...
him not eating solids isnt the end of the world... i know that you are concerned about his weight but if he is healthy in other respects then you may have to just let go and try and relax. He is getting sustenance frm the bottles you are giving him so maybe take a very relaxed attitude to food, offer him some of what you are eating - like your sandwich for example - but dont worry if he doesnt want it.
remember some kids just arent interested in food and he will get there in his own time.

Thanks guys. I know he won't be drinking a bottle at 15!!
I am just stressed as I have to go back to work in a couple of months, and I just don't know how anyone will be able to feed him. He gags and power vomits on finger foods, and now even old favourites are rejected.
It's a good idea about offering solids before milk, but my dietician won't let me do that yet as he has been losing weight. The medical profession put a lot of fear into me and it certainly doesn't help us at all.
I am trying not to worry until his cold is 100% gone and he's settled on the Neocate. Hopefully then his appetite will improve again.
Support appreciated!

That must be very stressful.
You can get a recipe book from neocate with foods you can make with Neocate in those might help as first you can make them with lots of neocate so the foods taste a lot like just having milk and secondly if you do offer the food first you know it has the goodness of the milk in it.
I would also try playing with food, so make up some home made play dough or home made paints and just play with it and don't stress about him actually eating any but he might. Also try taking it out of the highchair and play with the food on the floor, so get a messy mat and have a picnic that way he can crawl off and do what he likes and there isn't the pressure of being strapped into a chair to eat.
Oh master Spencer has found me, time to go, good luck

Sorry to hear your troubles with solids, kiwilaurie.
DS went off solids recently too at the tail end of a cold. He still hasn't gotten back into them. I have to tell myself it's a phase and he won't be 5 years old, on the bottle (AND with no teeth!)

Daniel went on and off solids until he was one, he would go through stages of not wanting a bar of anything. One night I got so annoyed by it I just tipped a jar of food on his highchair tray and he went to town with it. Smearing it all over himself BUT he did end up sucking some off his fingers and it was funny to watch but he sitll got some in him which was the main thing. I found the more stressed I got, the less he ate. If it was funny then he ate lots

Awww, that is so cute for Daniel getting to get all messy and slimey A great idea too!
I also don't have any advice sorry Laurie, just wanted to come and give you a *hug*, I know you have had so many issues with feeding your little monkey. I hope you can find someone who can give you great advice and encouragement seeing as the medical people don't seem to be very encouraging!
BTW, that may actually be the cutest photo in the whole world on your ticker
edited for spelling
