Right... I expect both preggo ladies to share what they have appreciated recieving at their baby showers and from Mums who know what they liked or what they would have liked!
I just had my step-cousin give birth to a baby girl and was thinking about a gift apart from the obvious. I ended up getting her Bobux shoes in size M (for when babe starts to crawl) as I loooooved these shoes.
So anyone else got any tips for new baby gifts?

I know my SIL loved actually receiving something nice for her. All the stuff she got was for the baby except from us, we got her the usual baby outfit, and also some nice stuff for her, a nice foot treatment for her foot spa and some other smellies from the body shop. She loved it.

Ooooo I just thought of something else regarding pressies for Mums. I agree with you Sarah Beth, loved getting some goodies for me, only problem is that I got about 10 sets of bath and shower gels etc. Ended up giving half of them away.
But... I remember having to go out shopping for new clothes as I didn't have any that fit me in post-baby mode... so maybe clothing vouchers as a pressie. Hrmmm...

Actually hell yeah... facial voucher.. they were brilliant!!! (Especially when overdue and struggling to find things to do to pass the days)
I meant to say as well Sarah Beth, didn't want to sound like I was cutting down your contribution to this thread before... I would definitely not have give away gifts from the body shop, I just had tonnes of the generic packs of bath stuff you get. Not so exciting. (Gee, I'm sounding really ungrateful!!! Ah well...)

my friend got a voucher for a massage and manicure from her work which she loved cos she got her nails done before baby was born and in all her pics with baby she has really nice nails! sounds minor but when your hair is a mess or your feeling really grotty its nice to have something to feel good about.

My fave gift for baby was those nighties with the ribbon tie up thingy on the bottom, cute and fabbo for middle of the night nappy changes. My work gave me a big chemist voucher which I loved, I bought myself a super deluxe sponge bag, since I have never had a nice one.

Ooh i loved getting stuff for me that i'd never usually buy myself, mum found out what type of face scrub and body wash and moisturisers etc i used and bought me that type of thing so that i wouldn't run out after bubs was born - cos if you're tight on money post baby those are the first things to go.
One thing i found really nice was that for Paris's 1st birthday, an old friend of mine got some clothes voushers for tnt for Paris, but she got me some gift vouchers for farmers.. i thought was the nicest thing ever.. cos yep you do need new clothes post baby, but alot of the time you are still b/feeding or trying to loose the tummy, by the time they turn 1 your body is usually starting to get back to some semblance of normal and that's when i found i needed new clothes the most.
For my sisters i used to do HUGE gifts for their baby showers: Mum would knit a set for me to put with it, booties, hat, matinee jacket.. in kewl wool, not nana-ish stuff. I would buy at sales for ages beforehand, and get 5 of most things, 5 singlets, pairs of socks, bodysuits, and a few stretch n grow/fleece sleep suyits in newborn (if it was a winter baby), as well as the powder, baby shampoo, nappies, pins, cotton buds and a teddy for bubs, nail clippers, hair brush set, and i would buy some baby towels and stick them in the bottom of a new baby bath (agreed with them first that i'd get them the baby bath) and also would add some nice stuff for mum too like choccys and some pampery type stuff. it was pretty much like a "start-up" pack, lol. And all in all, it never really cost me too much more than approx $50, cos i got it all on sales... not that i'm cheap, just like to get lots for my money.

oooh and a few people got me those nice tiny soft stretchy face cloths and i found that having been given so many was a god send for using on tiny bottoms, or faces, or even to help dry under babies neck after a bath when they are sooo small that the huge bath towel just won't fit to dry there (mostly cos they are unco-operative litte mites)

I just got my new niece a rash suit for swimming when she is bigger. it was $3 at the Warehouse! Woohoo.
For me, I loved clothes but had so many for Taine from Jake, that I wasn't quite sure what we needed. I always appreciated clothing in bigger sizes. Photo albulms, dvds for kiddies, and at the moment we are collecting these plastic animals made in Germany. They are $10 each but such good quality. I'm planing to give a smallish set of those to her as well.

My lovely boss gave me a Bella Mama vouchrer for a pregnancy massage, which will be an awesome treat fro me, and not something I would normally do for myself.
Mumand Dad bought Maya a gold bracelet with her name engraved on it and will do the same for the twins (just as well - will have to label them when they are born so I can tell them apart lol).

Emma - you're in for a real treat, I absolutely *adore* my Bella Mama massages, we booked a package of six and I still have three to go. Complete bliss, and the ladies who work there are really lovely.

Oooh how I am dying for someone to just pamper me for a day. The hair, the facial, the nails, the massage- everything! Something like that for a gift for the mum is just the best!
And for the bub- umm well I'd like stuff I havent got and if I get to much of it or get the same thing twice- I'll most likely save and use later. Unless it's like a baby bath- then I'd have to find something else to do with it. Maybe make a toy box or something- just chuck all the teddies into it or whatever for the time being.
My baby shower is coming up 1st of July- so I'm hoping to be pampered. Haha. NOTE TO SELF- WONT HAPPEN HAHA!

Baby clothes in bigger sizes are good. One of the best pressies we got was a storage box full of useful stuff - newborn nappies, napisan, toys, feeding spoons etc... A friend had a baby a few weeks after me and I got a couple of little things for the bub, and magazines, food, bottled water etc for mum in the hospital cos I remembered how bored and hungry I got!!

Best thing I got after having Josiah was a big gift bag with grapes, pringles and chocolate for me, a rattle for Josiah and a jigsaw puzzle for Kiya.

Loving the ffod idea - Birthcare food was tasty, but so little of it and I was starving!
The napisan and stuff is a good idea too Aimee - stuff that you have to buy again and again so it would be good to have a bit of a stock.
