Hi gals

Glad to see I can actually get back on the site now, without having to wait an hour for a page to load

Just wondered if anyone's had to send hubby off to get his swimmers checked, specifically in Auckland. You've got to get the specimen to MedLab within 1hr but the only place in Auckland where you can hand in the specimen is Ellerslie! I seriously can't understand how they expect people in such a huge area like Auckland to all be able to make it to Ellerslie within an hour of doing the deed

I asked the nurse at my local MedLab about what facilities Ellerslie had eg: do they have a room men can use, and she said they frown upon men providing the specimen 'on site'.

I've told hubby that he'll just have to go there and sneak into the loos without anyone noticing. It all sounds a bit 'cloak and dagger' though, which is rediculous

Anyone have any similar experiences?

You would think in a big city like Auckland they would cater for the traffic and travel times. I say he uses the loos too

That seems a bit silly! I would actually ring them in Ellerslie and see if they can accomodate.

They need it there within the hour so that they can analyse it, the motility etc starts to decline after that time.

Whenever my DH had to give a sample i made him go into the loos and do it there - maybe the disabled loo as this is a bit more private.

Thanks... I'll give them a call.

I did offer to buy the hubby some 'jazz mags' to take into the loos with him LOL

I sense a business opportunity there! Someone should set up a gentlemens club nearby with dancing girls and such.

But seriously, how ridiculous!!!!

Funny!

We decided not to get DP's swimmers checked due to the time constraints. We're out west and it would take us about an hour to get there with no one on the roads i reakon, not to mention having to keep it at body temp the whole time.

turned out that his swimmers were fine, hence the ectopic pregnancy, but still it's a mission to get it all done and out there in the time needed.

I offered to take him to one tree hill in the car (rather than him on his MB) to do the deed, then it's only a shortish trip, but he was worried about the sheep watching him, lol.

I have just been through this but in Welly. I also got DF some naughty mags to help out

Check if they take Saturday deliveries (they don't down here so that was a wasted bit of effort), also check what their drop off deadlines are. On our third go we went to a lab just after 4pm to be told their cut off time was 4. We sped to another lab whose cut off time was 4.30pm and I rang ahead but even so I had a battle with the receptionist to get it handed over.

However its looking like my darling has a blockage in the plumbing so it may be IVF for us...

So apart from working out the logistics of getting there or where to do it. phone and see if Saturdays are out or if your partner finishes work at say 4pm, that anything handed over after that is too late.

Our GP just never told us.

I've spoken to MedLab in Ellerslie and they said that so long as they have it in 1.5hrs and I let them know when we drop it off, then it's OK.

They always give an hour to allow time for them to process everything, but if they'll rush it through if need be, which is a bit more helpful.

Hope that extra 30 minutes help.

I am picturing you sitting in the car engine running and DH dashing out with his little brown paper bag and you both speeding off.

LOL, why do they always have those sample in brown paper bags on TV?

Well we managed it

North Shore to Harrison Road in just over an hour on public transport.
I'm guessing the doc should have the results on Monday.

It was quite funny really.... I said to him that I need his swimmers between 9.55 and 10.05 so that I can catch the ferry. Then I was concerned about them getting cold, so I wrapped the jar in tin foil and then a tea towel.
