Hi everyone,
Last week both Dominic and Isobelle contracted the rotavirus which is an extremely agressive and painful virus that cause vomiting and diahorea. Isobelle actually ended up in hospital for two days to receive nasogastric rehydration. She is just getting better but Dominic is still very sick. We think that they picked it up either at mainly music or playgroup. Anyway, the reason I've posted this is that is just absolutely everywhere at the moment, the wards were full of toddlers and babies with vomiting and diahorea, so do be careful and hygenic with your little ones. The Rotavirus can live for weeks on toys and surfaces and is contracted via when you come in contact with infected faeces, it can take up to 3 days to start showing symptoms and can be infectious for 1 to 2 weeks after the symptoms start. Symptoms include, vomiting, diahorea (can last up to 8 days), stomach cramps, fever (not always tho), tiredness, cough and a runny nose. We had a gastro bug last week but not as severe as this, ours was pretty much done within 24 hrs (well the really part anyway) baby still having a few issues but is eating and drinking thankfully. Hope you all recover soon, its not nice (even worse when you have it at the same time as the kids and don't know who to clean up first!! -------------

You actually get a vaccine for this. McKayla had it bad the first time and got it a second time too (luckily not that bad). I am definately thinking of giving the vaccine to Andrew so he wont get it or if he does in a lesser degree.
The only reason why McKayla never landed in hospital was due to me still breastfeeding and we literally sat with her on my boob the whole time. As she puked up she wanted more booby so we could keep her hydrated that way. Lots of fun.  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

its a nasty bug - i recommend the vaccine - it is a 2 dose vaccine and you need to start it before they are 20 weeks old - you do need to pay - but worth it - my daughter ended up in hospital with it as well - australia do it for free as part of the immunisation schedule -------------  http://lilypie.com">

I totally agree with this post - have seen a few with it lately - totally wipes them out. Be careful as there is alot of tummy buggy-ness around at the mo. I know that also around palmy region and waikato region there's norovirus too - very nasty in adults and spreading quite easily. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

They can still get the rotavirus but it will be in such a lesser degree that you might think it is a normal tummy bug. With Andrew going to Playcentre almost immediately I am definately going to get it for him. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I think our kids have this at the moment. Gia came down with it friday, and has only started eating again today, but not much. Rico was up ALL night spewing, went for about 17 hrs, then started the other end this afternoon. It's freaking me out that I'll get it, on top of having MS as well. And I REALLY don't want Jett to get it, he's just had a virus and didn't eat for 5 days, I'd hate for him to get a tummy bug now just when he's started eating again. GAH bugs are soo horrible!!! We went camping at Christmas time and most of the camp ground came down with it. Lauren was so ill with it she slept for 4 days straight on my lap which was hard work! She also spent time in Whangarei Hospital during our holiday to rehydrate her.
The afternoon that we arrived home my Mum came down with it and so did DH. Lauren lost over 3kgs when she had it! It is horrid!! ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

Jayden was in hospital at 4 months of age with a UTI and the girl in the next room had it and was in isolation and Jayden still got it! we ended up back in hospital and in isolation, wish we had got the vacine! you do have to pay for it but I recon its worth while he had the runs for 2 weeks! ------------- http://lilypie.com">    [/url]
