I looked into the research on raspberry leaf tea when I was pregnant with Ollie because there seem to be many misconceptions about it. I won't help induce labour but the thought is that it does help tone uterine muscles - which in turn I guess helps contractions.

There are varied opinions on when you should start taking it with the only agreement being not to take it in the first trimester. I think I drank it from about 36 weeks last time and I think I will probably do it again. It was only the only time I was aware of braxton hix so it must have been doing something. The thing that appealed to me was that it's full of good stuff (can't remember what but I'm pretty sure iron is one of them!). and if you are thinking you need to drink 3 cups a day then at least you're getting a certain amount of fluid. Plus I had such a smooth labour that I like to think it helped (I have no idea whether it really did or not).

I didn't mind the taste with a bit of honey added although I know lots of people hate it!

Usually no earlier than 35/36 weeks.

Helps tone the uterus like kate said so basically it gets your uterus prepared for labour, so you just have to wait for the baby.

One school of thought is that if you have a strong family history of PPH (post-partum haemorrage) that you should avoid it. My mum had a massive haemorrage when my sis was born and a small one when I was born, so I passed on it last time. Funnily enough the only thing that stopped me having Jack at 38.5/39 weeks when he was ready is that my uterus and cervix wasn't ready (mw could feel the head but the cervix wasn't prepared enough for him - RLT would have helped that). Seeing as I didn't haemorrage last time I will take it this time as I have no direct history etc.

Yep it tones your uterus so helps with the contractions. I drunk it with Josh along with taking EPO and that helped me with the induction of Josh at 39 weeks.

Not being a tea drinker I just took the tablets. Having nothing to compare it to, I can't tell you if it helped - I would like to think it did, and will look at taking them again very soon

I took it last year with Lily - but don't think it did anything to help - my labour was long and painful and I ended up having a emergency c-sect anyway so not sure how well it prepared my uterus/body for birth!

Don't think I'll be taking it this time - unless I get given it, it wasn't the cheapest tea around!

I never took it and had a fairly drug free birth at 39 weeks gest - just had gas so I don't see the point in it personally and I think it tastes

I drank it with Caprece had had a lot faster labour but then again that could well be due to the fact that my body had done it before. Would probably take it again if I had another.

I drank loads of tea, earlier than the packet recommends (as my midwife recommended), I took pre-birth spray and EPO as recommended by MW too.

As it happened I was induced one day before my due date (waters broke) and my body was nowhere near ready to give birth. Disapointingly so. It was a very long labour.

I won't bother with homeopathic stuff next time.

I drink it when I'm not PG, as it really helps with period pain. Used to the taste, as long as there is some honey to add.
Planning to take it again soon as this time around the BH only feel like they are over one part of my uterus. Weird.

I started drinking it on Saturday at 36 weeks, don't mind the taste actually reminds me a bit of green tea. It is said to tone your uterus, also is a different taste from just boring water!!

I think its 3 or 4 cups a day? I drank it from 36 weeks and took the 5W pills too, MW said if K could have fit out i would have had her at home and thought maybe the short amount of time i was in labour for was because i took both together. I didnt mind the taste but my friend couldnt drink it

Sheena, make sure you check with your midwife, some dont recommend it and also naturopaths don't recommend it before 36 weeks so you have a couple of weeks before you can start drinking. I am also about to start the pre birth spray in the naturo pharm range you can take that 15 days before edd and apparently its good for labour too.

I drunk raspberry tea from about 35-36 weeks and once Jake actually hit my cervix (his shoulder was stuck keeping him quite high for about 17 hours!) I went from 1cm dilated to 10cm and baby presenting in less than 45 minutes.
I'll def be taking it with this one. I think it only helps if your body is ready though.

Don't know if it was the tea - but I was taking 5w pills from 5 weeks, but I could never remember to take them, got some tea and was drinking it in the last few weeks... was induced and had a 4 hour labour gas only, don't know if that was just luck or tea or genetics!

Have to say that I for some reason thought that "raspberry" leaf tea would taste like raspberry. My first mouthful had me in shock! It tastes like hay. Boiled hay.

But in that last few weeks it was good to have a focal point thinking that "perhaps" it might help with or induce labour!
