Ok so, we had the best of intentions when we started out, and even got it down to a shortlist - but that has since fallen apart and we can't decide on anything ! Nothing seems to fit, even the ones that we really liked before. I think we are starting to lean towards wanting to pick a name before she's born now, but are really struggling.

Anyway, just needed to vent really

LOL Thanks though Rach, that sounds like something I would have said to anyone else asking this question (and if I had already had a baby) LOL I mean, it still might not happen until when / after she's born but... like I mentioned we are leaning more towards wanting to pick a name beforehand *sigh*

you can always ask on here - i think heaps of people have.

Some other names we had picked were Jasmine, Veda (vay-da), opal, eden, Tamsyn, lilly, Anna, and coral.... but we like pretty different types of names.

did any take your fancy on the thread I started which was all girls names? I was really starting to worry about finding a name, I felt like once I knew she was a girl she had to have a name and identity if that makes sense

Posted By: jax
Date Posted: 04 June 2006 at 8:38pm
I know it's going to sound as lame as you can get, but we knocked Maddison off the list because a) someone we know has it b) our cat is called Maddison (Maddy for short). I even got out the really awesome baby names book we have, and got all the way up to the letter 'E' before DH finally agreed on liking one of the ones I'd picked out ! I've started a new list and am going to edit / add at will I guess, not sure how long it will take us to settle, I don't want it to be forever though. Oh, and the name DH said he liked as well was Erin.

Edited to add: Robyn - I know EXACTLY what you mean about the whole identity thing !!!!!

we settled on jack's name pretty early, about a week after we found out he was a boy. this time, we don't know what we're having and names are just not coming to us!
we have a boy name picked, but everyone lately is convinced i'm having a girl, incl DH.
our girl name we had for jack was mya zoey, but i'm not sure i like that anymore. i'd like to use zoey, but my parents now have a dog named that

anyway, i'm no help at all, good luck on your quest

Maya had a name pretty early on, I named her after a poet (as you have all heard a thousand times lol) but the twins are posing a bit of a name problem! I feel like they need to have strong, meaningful names too, but there aren't any that come to me. I kind of like Chiara (Italian for Claire which is my sisters name) but know 2 Chiara's already (one spelt Kiara) but other than that no idea.
They will both have two English names and two Maori names like Maya, and teh bigger twin is going to be something-Mercedes something something but no idea what the 'somethings' will be yet, and the smaller twin still has no names at all.

Jax - I ended up with no idea what to name Hannah when I went into labour. I had a whole lot of names that I thought were really cool, but then would go off them a while later. I ended up naming her with Hannah, which was the only name that I didn't despise by the end of it. It's not a very romantic way of naming your child, but in the end she just looked like a Hannah.
Maybe by the time you get there you'll have a name you don't hate too!! (Gosh I'm helpful tonight )

I love Sophia!

Peter and I went through 2 names books (one German one English ) and still only came up with a handful of names that we both liked. We didn't know what we were having though which made it harder I guess too.

We still like it, and it's still in consideration, but is not leading as strongly as it was before (Sophia). And GAH ! I read about Miss Halliwell's naming thing... what a bubblehead ! Want something strong, but feminine, unique but practical... aaaaaaaaaaargh !

I think sometimes people do the unique thing just a little too far.

Depends on your definition of unique, I see unique as something 'less common', whereas some people see it as a licence to go nuts

I chose "Zaara" when I was may be 20 weeks pregnant and didnt know that I was having a girl. And that was the only Girl name we chose. I also wanted a different/uncommon name but didnt want a very indian name. Simply because she is going to grow up here and needed a name that people can actually pronounce....He he ha ha. However I found "Zara" a bit boring so added aN extra "a" to spice things up....LOL

And Zaara is a Indian name. So works out well.

I hear you on the unique thing Liz. With Maya I wanted a name that wasn't going to be so common she had 4 other Maya's in her class, but that wasn't so radical she got teased or had to tell people how to pronounce it. Even still she gets May-a a lot instead of M-ya which is how it is supposed to be pronounced.

Sorry Jax - hijack! I like Sophia. It's pretty but strong not wussy and girly.

ugh* I have teh same problem. We had abotu 3 gorgeous names picked out for boys (not deliberately but we just foudn boys names easier) and after we found out it was a girl we were stumped! now we have a few names we sort of like but none that really stand out to us! and trawling through the name sites is soooo laborious I cant be bothered...I am hoping I will hear a name and it will just come to me but I strongly suspect taht this baby will be born beofre we come even close to finding a name...

I had never heard addison until it was suggested on here and the day after I told my family what the name was we heard it about 4 times, including grays anatomy but I still think its not to common enough, same as Kobe, a little different but not way out there.

My friends wee girl is Maddix and shes so cute. We were guna call Jack Grace if he was a girl. I also like Kayden for a girl or boy. What I did is I wrote all the names i liked down from a name book and let ben choose the ones he likes from the list. It didn't work because Ben hates any kind of name that isn't really common and refused to choose any name off my list. We ended up with Jack cos of Jake from once were warriors which is Bens favourite movie but thought we better not name him that so it turned into Jack. Thats also where we got Grace from.

Ooh, jake gets the "Jake the muss" thing alot. I'm not impressed. We named him Jake from the Blues Brothers.
If he was agirl, he would've been Aiko - which is japanese for Love child. Taine was named from no-one but we did get the name from taine randall (whose borther?'s child drowned on the swimming pool cover...so sad!), if he was a girl he would've been Leah.

If I'd had a girl, she would have been Hazel Carolyn or Hazel Grace, and DH would have had no choice in the matter. Another one I heard recently was "Navy", which I thought was interesting and pretty, though I wouldn't choose it myself. A couple I've come across: Raeanne, Gianna, Eadie, Vada, Jaya, Ophelia.

I've got the hots for Hannah at the mo..or Ruby. Rod will hate both, I'm sure. Might just stick with Jaimee if #2 is a girlie, since that one is agreed on from when we were arguing over JJ's name pre birth.

Ooooh we get jake the muss sometimes as well, liz, but more often we get *cringe* jake the snake..

Erin is a gorgeous name, well done Jax on finding your bubba name!

Mike named Paris - i had no say in the matter, he came up with the whole name, which he assures me was NOT inspired by Paris hilton so that's all good.

I got to choose Ayja's name and just changed the spelling from Aja, whichi reckon people would end up saying wrong all the time... to Ayja, so it looks like it sounds... also cos Aja was the hindu word for goat apparently. lol.

we chose our name's really early on and haven't gone back over them since and still really love our choices, so we don't have any back ups.

for a girl "Caitlin Lilly"
Caitlin, just because we liked it and Lillian is my Mum's middle name and we wanted her involved in the name, so we added the "modern" version.

for a boy "Matthew David"
Matthew, again just because we liked it and David is my Dad's name.

DH's brother's kids are all named after their side of the family and apart from there not being any "nice" names left to choose from we wanted my family's names for our kids

Yay! Quinn is such a cool name!!

Quinn was always a Quinn, right from dot. We had no other names chosen

This time round we have nothing. We decided that we wouldn't get into it until we had found what kind it was (boy/girl) but now that we can't find out we are stuck. There is nothing that I like yet... but we still have another few months to think about it!
