A little while ago we weaned DD off her dummy as it was waking her up to 10 times a night because it fell out, and so we have replaced it with a blankie/lovie or as we call it sookie. Just lately DD has started sticking the corner of it in her mouth and sucking on it to go to sleep, which does not really bother me but its a piece of my old p.j's which I have sewn to have clean edges etc. but when she sucks on it it smells awful and I am thinking maybe I should change it to some other kind of fabric e.g. muslin. The other day in the car she fell asleep with her PP blanket stuffed in her mouth

What does everyone else use as a blankie? I was thinking of tying knots in each corner of the muslin so there is actually something to suck on if she wants to. Also should I be worried about her putting it in her mouth???

Firstly, I think no matter what you use as Heidi's sookie, it will smell, especially if she's sucking it. Is it possible to have 2 or 3 of them, so you can rotate them while washing them. I know when my brother was little, he had one (we called it a "sucky" bag lol) and it was an old pillowcase.
I also don't think you need to worry about her putting it in her mouth, as I've discovered, everything goes into their mouths at this age

E has 3 of Jess' muslin taggies cause I was worried about him having anything else over his face and he still uses them every night (and dummy too though) they don't really smell but cause we have 3 I just rotate them and he doesn't care as they are all identical..

i wouldn't worry about the mouth thing.. as the others said they suck on everything within grabbing distance !

My brother had a few, as long as it was one of my mums nighties he was happy. Unfortunately he held the nightie up to his face and sucked on 2 fingers instead. He had to get a cage put in when he was older (maybe 5ish) because he bent his teeth during development. Silly brother.

Ugh. Unfortunately you probably can't change it! My DD3 has attached herself to a pillowcase (thankfully we have 2 identical) and she does suck the corner. It is fast getting stained yellow but we just make sure it is washed regularly and that's about all we can do.

Ewwww, cuddly toy smell

Maya once complained to me that her Fussy Bubba smelled, I was like "you only just noticed?" Sienna has a manky bunny and Mercedes has two Peters, the idea was we could swap them out to wash them but she found out there were two so now she insists on having both.

Lil miss has two "manky blankets" taggies that we swap out, they get pretty gross coz she chews on the tags so we try and wash them once a week or so.

Thanks everyone glad to know we are not the only ones with smelly sucked on blankies. I have swapped it for the muslin with the knotted corners and she seems to like this even better (I slept with it over my pillow last night so it smelled like me) and I have 2 others exactly the same so I think we will go with this and I can wash them regularly.

Although I must confess I had a sheepskin blankie when I was young and apparently I cried when it was washed as I did not like the clean smell EEEEWWWWW!!!!

Ha ha, we bought Maya a second Fussy but it was too clean and she wouldn't take it - she still calls it Fussy Fake

Campbell has started sucking on a cuddly square of fabric or his Peke Moe when going to sleep, but they don't really stink. Does the smelliness start when they're eating solids?

David really only snuggles if it is a micro fleece type fabric. he loves the softness.
