Can anyone recommend a good video camera? I am looking to buy one, don't want anything really flash but nothing too simple either.

If you have a good one, that is a fairly recent model I would love to know or if anyone has access to the consumer guide and can tell me what they say that would be great and much appreciated.

Thanks

We have a Canon HF10 which is HD. The picture quality is amazing, it's been really good for filming Callum as it copes really well with things moving quickly - refocuses well. I can't remember what we paid for it, possibly around $1500 but we got it in Aussie as it was 60% dearer here in Singapore

Only downside is that it uses a new format .mt2s and the quality is so good that we had to get a new PC to deal with the graphics Not the DH was complaining as he is a computer nerd ....

www.cnet.com is great for techie product reviews, they have loads of camcorder reviews http://reviews.cnet.com/camcorders/?tag=TOCleftColumn.0 - here I think the $ amounts are in USD though.

I'm not a huge expert on video cameras but i recommend going for either one that records onto its own HDD, or a SD card or a DV tape rather than a DVD, the dvds are pretty much only available in 30 or 60 mins and are pretty expensive, about $10-$20 per disc.

weve got a sony dvd handycam, its really good and can take photos with it too, and the battery lasts ages and its small so can fit into a handbag. although as said above you have to buy the discs which can get expensive and anoying if you forget

We have the JVC Everio Hybrid HDD/Micro SD viedo camera and its great. Its really easy to use and easy to upload to the computer. It holds like 35 hours of recording on the hard drive plus it also has the SD option as well.
We did have the tape one but upgraded to the Hard Drive one as the tape is too difficult to upload to the computer and the quality was terrible.
