Ok so for quite a while (weeks, possibly months) my boy has had this rash - but just recently it's been more angry looking and has really flared up.

It looks like some sort of allergy rash to me, but I don't know. We use Persil Sensitive washing powder and huggies sensitive bathwash. I was wondering if it could be from kiwifruit (but had none today and is still bad) or from dairy (but he's had dairy for ages). He usually wears a body suit under a long sleeved tshirt so I don't think it's from things (ie carpet, grass) rubbing on it.

The rash is on his front and back - yesterday the front was the worst, today the back is.

He's otherwise happy and not sick (no temp etc).

Any ideas?

(Sorry the photos are big but it's so you can see the rash properly.. these pics were taken after his shower tonight, the rash was there before as well though... all pics are of his back)

Ouch, poor wee boy. Looks like the rash I used to get after being in long grass but I'm guessing that wouldn't explain his rash.

The http://dermnetnz.info/ - Dermatology Society of NZ website is really comprehensive, is searchable and has lots of photos of different disorders but hopefully someone might be able to give you some ideas so you can narrow the search on the site.

I get rashes from eating acidic fruit and sometimes it takes awhile to come out, so I could eat the fruit and not have any rash until 2 days later. It is kind of like hives but can be grouped or just a few on their own. So it could be something like kiwifruit causing it.

I also get rashes from conifer trees but then my lips swell and my joints seize, very attractive, its strange what people can have reactions too

Thanks for that guys - it looks rather like a http://www.dermnetnz.org/viral/viral-exanthem.html - viral rash doesn't it?

ETA: I had thought it might be hives but looking at http://www.dermnetnz.org/reactions/urticaria.html - these photos now I don't think so (ouch that person's swollen face)

Brilliant website by the way

I was just going to say it looks exactly like the rash Jackson had this year, I was told his was viral too.
But I guess it cant be that as Harry has had it for months.

I would guess it could even be some sort of citrus fruit. If hes had it for months, could it possibly be something like oranges, or a food you have introduced once he turned one?

If you think it might be food related you can start eliminating things to see if it improves. Some allergies build up over time, so for example Spencer can now tolerate small amounts of dairy in baking but if he was to eat yoghurt he comes out in a rash. Take out anything you suspect for 2 weeks and if no different then try something else, you really do need to do it for two weeks to notice a difference though, one day won't tell you as it will still be in their system.

Also are you using the new persil double strength stuff? (or whatever it is they have changed to?) cos a friend of ours little boy had reacted to that and she's found swapping him to ecostore has fixed it, he didn't react to the non concentrate stuff.

That website is great! Kinda gross, there was a bit that was about reactions to external agents and heat and cold and some of them looked like his rash. And cause he had just gotten out of the bath it might explain it. I find aqueous cream is great for soothing a heat rash,
Does he have them anywhere else? Hands?,feet? etc?

Oh my son had the exact same rash about two weeks ago. Looks nasty and covered his torso area but no where else. It didn't seem to bother him and it was gone a week later although his skin hasn't gone back to perfect yet.

I get a similar rash from detergents normally with aloe vera and amoxicillian (and heaps of related drugs).

I can only use surf washing power and persil sensitive (although im sure i use to react to it) i cant have fabric softeners and i react to a few shampoos like VO5. I use to be given like of telfast and loratabs to get rid of the rash.

Mine is only ever on my arms legs or torso but never on my face. The rash i get is always itchy tho and depending on what i react to is usually only a couple of spots although amoxicillian causes lots

Hope you find out what it is
