Hi guys,

Has anyone been to these places recently? Are there play things/areas suitable for Under 1s? I know babies under 1yo are free, but wondering if there is anything for them to do.

Thinking about having a coffee group catch up there.

I don't really like either of them, I would suggest Junglerama in Newtown. Bigger, brighter and newer (IMO). Can't remember what facilities are like for under one but I'm sure they have a toddler area which will also cater for under ones I would say

yeah - Junglerama is fine for under 1s. They have a separate area but the bigger kids can go into it as well (upto 4yo) Sophie has been going there since she was born (the joy of being a second child ) and loves it. She now thinks that she is one of the big kids and is in the other bit doing her best to give me grey hairs .

I haven't been to the other ones but a friend told me that they are better for 3+

Chipmunks only really has a small area for the littlies, its ok but nothing flash. Is cool for bigger kids though!
I didnt like lollipops out the hutt at all. It has a 2x2m square padded box that you put the kids in and most of the toys seemed broken or didnt work.
Haven't been to juglerama.

I Junglerama the best. Other than it being the closest one to me the toddler section is good if your boy is mobile in anyway.

Plus I was able to sit and have a coffee while my 2 girls explored the toddler section. Now they're too adventurous and prefer the bigger section so we only go when I have at least DH with me.

I found the toddlers section in Chipmunks to be too small and enclosed.

There's Kids Chronicles in Lower Hutt too which is a cafe with a decent play area. I've never been but have heard good things about it.

Tishy, I know what you mean!! Sophie is very keen on the big climbing frame and [L[ the tunnel slide (head first of course) and a couple of weeks ago she realised that she could turn left at the top of the ramp and follow the big kids - luckily i was hovering right behind her and turned her around back to the slide

Laurie, I will keep an eye out for you as once you have been once I am sure you will be back

haha! The girls discovered going left last time we were there. Aoife accidentally discovered going down the big tunnel slide, thankfully I was at the bottom to greet her

Jaycee, that's the one. She emerged with a 'what the hell was that' look on her face

Kazzle, from what I gather it's just a cafe with a decent play area which is free.
It's also got a Wonderland area which costs but it's got different rooms which are story themed with story tellers. e.g. Alice in Wonderland and Bo Beep.
I'm not explaining it very well but the place has me intrigued from what I've heard from people

I've been to kids chronicle and its ok, nothing flash. The Multiple Birth did a write up about it so I thought I would check it out. What was good was that my 3 year old was happy to play on the toys in the cafe while I had a good chat with my sister. The food is so-so, its recently been painted but they didn't do a good job and the tables are glass and the chairs weren't particularly good but I would go again. I loved that the kids were entertained so I could have a good chat and drink a coffee in peace

i havent been to chipmunks or lollipops in a while but do not have fond memories of either... they smelt like wee, toys were broken, food choices at the cafe were expensive and mostly deep fried.

Ive never heard of junglerama.. but would love to check it out sometime...

there is also Tinytown - it is in Kilbirnie between the pool and the library. The front half is a rollerskating ring and the back is for little kids. It is aimed at under 4s so in some ways it is better than all the others but would say that it is best for 18m to 3yos.

They have about 10 of the big get in/ride on cars, 3 or 4 of the plastic playhouses and a bouncy castle.

The thing that I liked best was that you HAVE to take your own food. They don't even have a vending machine.

Oh and at $4 it is cheaper than the others too

But they have a coffee machine don't they???

That sounds awesome though, my girls tend to hog those cars when they get a chance

there is a cafe for takeaway coffee down the road

LOL about hogging the cars - it is only a problem if it is really busy!

I went to Chronicles this morning, I would definately go back there, the only thing is the play area isnt closed off from the rest of the cafe, so the kids were roaming around the whole coffee place. Lots of toys and things to play with though, and its free
Food wasnt that great, muffins were $4
