Hi all, I'm a proud (most of the time) mum to a beautiful 8 and a half month old little boy ( who's currently amusing himself with the laundry basket while I type this!).
I'm Irish and have only been living in NZ for the past year or so, so friends etc (other than the wives / partners of my hubbies friends) are pretty thin on the ground. Add to this, the fact that I'm only learning to drive and we live pretty much out in the countryside and I think you'll see my predicament.
I love my son to bits, and enjoy every minute I spend with him partiuclarly now that he's becoming a real little boy with a naughty personality but I miss having girlfriends. Emailing my friends at home just isn't the same because of the time difference - I have to wait 12 hours or so for them to respond
Anyway, I'm hoping that a forum like this will help a bit as I'm really beginning to feel homesick and lonely Going home for a visit with bubba at Christmas, but right now that feels like a long way away.
Sorry for the novel!! I guess all I really wanted to say was Hi and I'm looking forward to speaking with you all x

Welcome! We're a pretty friendly bunch here and many of us are somewhat addicted to the site so there's always something going on! Have you joined your month (am guessing Nov/Dec 08?). Even though it might seem like everyone knows each other in the thread, newcomers are always welcome. I can imagine it's pretty hard going, being away from friends and family so helpfully OB will help.

Hey Daenis welcome to OB (and NZ ).
What part of the country are you in? There are meet-up threads for most areas and even if you're not able to travel there will be mums who'd love to visit you!
Hope you find what you're looking for here. Looking forward to seeing you round the threads

Hey! Welcome chic
Hope our country is treating you well. This forum is a great source of advice and friendship. I've met a great bunch of ladies in the meet up thread. I second that you should check it out. Theres nothing worse than being stuck indoors with a wee one all winter.
So what part of Ireland are you from? Is your Hubby a kiwi?
Look forward to seeing you around.
Keep it Irish

Ah thanks girls - you've made me feel welcome already!!!
We're in Taranaki, just outside New Plymouth and yep, my hubbies a Kiwi, who stole me away from my friends and family in Ireland!
I'm from a town called Greystones in Ireland, just south of Dublin, on the coast .
I'll definitely go join the month thread and also the meet up one, it owuld be great to meet some other mums around here, I'm so tired of feeling like a billy no mates!!
Anyway, little guy is demanding his afternoon snack so best go... will check in again later.
And again, thanks for being so welcoming

Yay for the Naki! We will be moving there eventually (well in a couple of years anyway)
My sister has a similar situation she married an Englishman and lived in London for 14 years with him and their 2 children but she decided it was time to come home so they moved to CHCH about 3 years ago. I know her husband still finds it extremely hard to be so far away from his family who are extremely close.
It does get easier though. Sometimes it just takes awhile and I imagine living in such a small town doesn't help lol.

I officially invite you to join the Oct and Nov '08 threads
The Oct one goes super fast, but feel free to just burst in, you're very welcome.
The Nov thread is nice and slow, so if you miss a day or two it's easy to catch up lol.
I moved from NZ to Perth in March and I am sort of in the same boat. But I LOVE the Oct/Nov threads! I haven't made any friends over here mostly because I am so shy in real life But chatting to other mummies with bubbas the same age makes me feel so much better!
WELCOME

Welcome to OB and also to what my work affectionately calls "Taradise" - Taranaki is a pretty great place, there are a few mums on here from around the Naki although I don't think we're really all that good at catching up/meeting each other!! Do you go to anything like Parents Centre playgroup? There are 3 Parents Centres - New Plymouth, Stratford and South Taranaki.
