We are going to have a low-key 1st Birthday party for Jackson. We are wanting to just invite people to come out to lunch/afternoon tea with us, and we'll do cake and singing etc. No presents!

So, we are trying to think of a cafe-like venue where we could have a private room, but people could order their own coffee/lunch/snacks etc. One that is kid friendly, but can be sectioned off so the littlies can't escape.

We can't afford to put on a big party, so something like this would be nice. All the babies we'll be inviting will be 1 or younger.

Any ideas for venues? Thanks in advance!

Southern Cross? I have no idea of price but they have a function room, do meals and are really good with children.

During the week they run Mum & Bubs stuff - they have seen a gap in the market and are trying to make the most of it!!

OT - they also have a knitting circle on Monday nights (if only I could knit )

Yeah I would love to knit.....

Actually Southern Cross is the one venue I had thought of too! So to have them recommended must mean they're pretty good.

Would still like other ideas though! There must be more like Southern Cross out there, surely. I am racking my brains...

I'm going tomorrow night!! A friend of mine is running a Knit-a-Thon for Wellington Neonatal Trust so I'm currently knitting some teeny tiny booties and beanies.

I can't think of anywhere that has a private room option.
I know the Organic Grocer has a fenced off section for the kiddos, as does the cafe at the zoo.

We had Fay's at Southern Cross for a Sunday brunch. you can reserve the big room at the front and everyone can help themselves to the bar and menu, arrange the furniture to keep the littlies in the area. I think we didn't pay to reserve the room, there were toys etc available and we were left to get on with things. Really nice relaxed atmosphere and most of all we didn't have to clear up any of the mess afterwards

Kids Chronicles Cafe in Lower Hutt is great, they have a free playground, yummy food and great coffee. They are reasonably priced too. They are in High Street in Lower Hutt, just down from the Robert Harris Cafe on the corner.
