Subject: Boys names - help!

I am really struggling to find a boy's name this time round. I'll be having my scan next month and I really don't mind what sex baby is, but because we have a girl's name, it will be so easy if bubs is a girl. I'm thinking that if we find out it's a boy, I'll get anxious about having to find a blimmin' name!!
So please, any suggestions, that you think will go along with our other children's names too. Difficult - I know!
I would have Luca at the drop of a hat, but Dh is dead-set against it. His suggestions I'm not fond of at all. A couple are; Costa, Ngarimu, Nuku and can't remember the rest (he had about 5). I don't want to settle on a name that I don't love. And i don't even like any of his ideas. I've looked on the net so many times and none of the names jump out at me, and if any do and I tell Dh he doesn't like it.
HELP! I'd love to go into my scan, having a name for a boy!

I like a lot of those names, problem is we either know someone else with them, or Dh doesn't like them. I have LOVED Reef since I was a kid - thought I made it up! I also like Ryder and Trey but DH doesn't. We know a Seth, Kian, Dane, Tai, Reef, Carlo. I think Cruz is pretty cool but know Dh wouldn't have it. I have thought of Rocco, but too close to Rico.
With all our childrens names, Dh has been the one to suggest it, and I've liked it. He's NEVER liked my ideas . I've suggested Luca since pg with Gia, and he's always turned it down. Originally he said it was a girl's name (I've never thought that, nor heard of a girl named that), now he says it's cos his friend is Luke and it's too close to that. See how hard it is for me?!! With the other 3, we had our names for each sex by now. Except with Gia - had no boys name until I found Caius. Dh liked that and the day I went into labour with her (we didn't know the sex) we said Gia for a girl, Caius for a boy. I didn't love Caius but it was the only one we could agree on. Now I have a niece called Kaia so we couldn't have Caius anyway - too close.

I like the idea of Marco too. Your names have an itallian feel to them dont they? I'm struggilng cos we chose very conservative names (family names) so havent thought of others. I hope its a girl and then it wont matter
Oh and I like Luca. A friend down here has cold her wee boy Pax (means peace in latin apparently) and Ithink that is cool

One of JJ's little friends at daycare is called Nikau, which I love - but it's pronounced so it rhymes with Rico so I guess it's not an option for you It's a good jumping off point for name suggestions though...

Boys names are hard! I like the way Luca sounds and it would go perfectly with your kids names. I like the names Eli and Archie, though I kinda like names that are cute and that babies don't have to 'grow' into, for example calling a baby Bruce.

Yes we liked Nikau too - but chose Rico over that. I don't mind Marco, but don't love it either. Kandice - have a friend with a boy Noah - born 3 days after Jett!
Liz - DH would sing that same song everytime I suggested Luca - think that's why he thought it was a girl's name - cos it's a chick singing. Luca is italiah or Russian - Luka. And I know that name would go perfect with the other 3!
Nikki our kids names do have an italian feel to them - Gia is, but Rico is spanish. So I was searching for more italian and spanish names, but most of them would be too hard to pronounce in little old NZ, plus they don't sound as good with a kiwi accent.
There are plenty of names I would probably have, but it's getting Dh to agree!! I'm scared to suggest any knowing Dh will just straight up say no.

Ispycharlie - Dh has been looking up Maori names, but I haven't heard any I'd like to have. He would have a maori name for sure. The boys have maori middle names, Rico has Mikaere Kiriwai (DH's family names), and Jett has Te Akau (random name we liked). I'm happy to have a maori middle name, but not for a first.

I was thinking that a Maori name would stick out too much from your other kids names, and then you'd get people asking why you only used a Maori name for bub number 4 etc. Good luck, it is a tough job naming another human being eh lol!

I think you should go with Luca! It goes perfectly with the other names! I'd be really really really stubborn about it and maybe your DH will come around eventually.

haha Renee - I'm trying to be stubborn!!! I've been suggesting it since baby #2! But since Dh had a falling out with his mate Luke last year, he's even more against his child having a name sounding so close.

ohhh Kelly, I tried that one after having Jett. We were arguing the moment after I had him about his middle names. I *thought* he'd agreed to have my brother's name Ryan as his middle name . But once we got talking, he says he never wanted it and only wanted Te Akau. I was livid! But I stood my ground, but had to compromise. Instead of Jett Ryan Te Akau - Dh got his way of Jett Te Akau Ryan. But I was gobsmacked at how determined he is, after just seeing me give birth to our 3rd child. Grrrrr

haha, so many of these names I like - but know people with them! Brooklyn, my niece. Cohen a friend's boy. I liked Makaia when pg with Gia, but now can't have it with my niece being Kaia. Dh liked Dante (I don't). I quite like Ciro/Cairo but don't know if I like it enough to have it. And a little too close to Kaia, got the KAI sound at the start. Like Ryder and Levi - Dh doesn't. Like Taj, but Dh's "friend" Luke has a cat named that. Have a friend called Isaac (he is my ex as well). Quite like Leo, but my best friend liked that for her last boy, and I think if I used it she might get the snots with me. Oh kaiz I still couldn't use Lucas - still got the sound "luke" in it.
So many names have connections with other people, so we can't use them. 99% of my friends/aquintances have boys too.
THANKS SO MUCH for all these suggestions though girls! Keep them coming!
And Kaiz - would love to see that book. I'll pay for postage.
Soo true Kelly! I think my Dh would make a good lawyer - he can talk his way into/out of anything!! Makes it hard for me to win. But I am getting smarter and can catch him out sometimes .

I wouldnt worry too much about other people having similar names. A good friend of mine just had her second baby and called him James. I dont mind a bit as I think its a lovely name. We had 2 Lucases in our coffee group and if Tom had been a girl we would have had 2 Isobels.

I agree, you can't worry too much about having similar names to people you know. Some of our names are the names of people we know (not named after them, but we like the name). If we decide for sure to use their names, we might warn them in advance, but it won't stop us using the name. I think you lose the association to the other person very quickly once it becomes the name of your kid, your kid is the first person you think of when you hear the name.

A friend has a boy named Cade, and my nieces names are Bayley, Brooklyn, Eden and Kaia. My nephews are Saul and Juda. Just thought I'd mention those cos there are a few of those names suggested.
Really can't have Nico/Nikau - just rhymes with Rico. But I do really like it.
I've decided that this baby just HAS to be a girl .
And Dh said that if we don't have a name when the baby's born, if it's a boy, then we'll just go to a family vote. NO WAY! I'm not having someone else name my child - I'm the one that has to use it everyday, and I won't have a name that I don't love!

What a bugger
Here are some Maori boy names (I really like the first to go with your family- Rico, Gia, Jett & Tare )
Tare, Taimana, Arana, Hohepa, Kahamai, Hone, Kohatu, Hutana, Ira
Having a girl would just have to be the go!

Ahh if only I could persuade Dh to have Luca - I have tried! The last conversation about it though, Dh was VERY adamant he'll never have that name .
Kelly - I hope you're right!! Will save a lot of hassle that's for sure on picking a boy's name. I liked a lot of those names suggested, but right now I can't remember them (very tired!). Will go back through them when I can think clearer and let ya know.

Ok, so I *think* we may have found one - I REALLY like it and Dh says "it's ok" in a positive tone! The more I think about it and say it, I like it!! It's one I've thought of in the past but haven't liked enough to have... but now it's come back to me and I would easily have it.
What do ya'll think about Cairo?? Rico, Gia, Jett and Cairo. And I quite like how you can shorted it to Ky.
Well....... I like it .

Great name but how would it sound out loud?
Would it come out too similar to Rico?
I'm not a fan of Cruz either, I thought it was girls name.
Would your DH go for Lucas?

The ending is a little similar I guess with the "o" sound. But it doesn't rhyme like Nikau does.
Dh wouldn't go for Lucas, and I don't like it how it love Luca.

I like it as well!
Only read first page and last page but what about Lucan we liked luca as well but everytime thought of that same song my name is luca so i played around with it and we came up with Lucan. We were going to have Lucan Joshua but it just seemed to sound better the other way around and it doubled as the same initials as DP.
When is your scan to find out the flavour?

mmm, I'm thinking "Rance" with a really bad Asian accent where they're really meaning "Lance" or Rance to sound like Rancid without the -id. Either is naaasty.
Kally, I think Cairo's all yours.
