How many feeds are you giving your 8-9 month old breast fed babies? I am planning to go back to work one day a week when James will be 8-9 months and the little bugger wont drink boob milk from a bottle so I am wondering how many feeds he will be needing from me around that time and maybe, just maybe, I can get away with one visit to feed during work hours.

So ....what are your babies doing?

TIA

henry was having 3 breastfeeds a day - morning , mid afternoon, and before bed. He was also eating 3 meals of solids a day though and eating a fair bit. I knew other 9month olds who were having 4-5feeds a day but they arent as into their solids. Hope that helps

Kayla is waking at night for feeds so i won't count those..but during the day it's one before morning nap (10ish) and one before afternoon nap (2ish) and then one before bed.

And she is on solids and water too..

Jody has about 5-6 BFs a day, depending on how mush she sleeps, sometimes she misses a feed. She's on 4 meals a day but usually doesn't eat much of one. She's always been a very frequent feeder though so I think maybe they're all different.
I have just started expressing to experiment how much she drinks from a bottle as I am doing a course on Monday nights starting this monday.
I found I can express 200ml sometimes (and only 50ml other times, grrrr), but even after 200ml my boob feels full so I guess she drinks heaps from the boob. However she only takes 100ml, if that, from the bottle. Sorry, I don't think I have been much help at all!
I think my point is, she seems to take a different amount at each feed. Like she had less than 100ml earlier in the evening (after refusing to eat tea), then she had nearly 200ml before bed.

ETA OMG, I suck at answering your question!! I forgot to say that Jody wouldn't take a bottle at all until recently. We just gave her the bottle to play with, with some breast milk in it and of course she shoved it straight into her mouth. Took a bit of convincing to get her to drink but she thought it was pretty hilarious.
Lately I have put her into the BFing position and held the bottle above my boob, that seems to work.
AT 6 months she was BFing about 7-8 times a day.

Hollie's 8 months tomorrow and I'm still at 5 a day. And 3 overnight. I'm going to start trying to cut back though, it's taking it's toll :(

Lil miss was having around 6 feeds a day at 9 mths, and still is at 12 mths. I was expressing for her while I was at work but I got lazy, and she copes fine with just water and food while I'm not there. She doesn't grizzle or cry for a feed if I'm not there, it's like she doesn't even think about it, but as soon as I walk in the door after work it's like she's a starving orphan baby and she absolutely *must* be fed before she dies of dehydration (she is such a drama queen!).

I do try to make sure she has yoghurt or custard for lunch or as a snack if I'm at work, just to up her "milk" intake on those days.

Thanks guys. This is helpful. Emma, do you still express while at work? I am far too lazy and figure if the little bugger wont drink it, why express it? I am hoping it wont effect my supply too much if it is just one day a week. What are everyone's thoughts?

I had Tom on formula by this age so I just dont know....and he went to formula as I started doubting my supply etc (as you do...stupid stupid stupid thing!)

Nope, I'm lazy lol. I do find if I spend 3 days in a row in the office then I'm a bit light on supply on the fourth day but a day or two of demand feeding soon builds it up again. If it's only one day a week, you should be sweet.

I feed 3x a day, first thing in the morning, after the afternoon nap and just before bed.

I have only needed to express a couple of times, so i'm not sure about expressing milk sorry.. but if you are feeding 3 times at that stage you may be able to get away with expressing just one bottle for the afternoon feed?

Hope it all works out
