Holy hell,
This is another reason I'm glad I don't live in the States:

"A woman in New Jersey refused to consent to a C-section during labor in the event that her baby was in distress. She ended up giving birth vaginally without incident. The baby was in good medical condition.

However, her baby was taken away from her and her parental rights were terminated because she "abused and neglected her child" by refusing the C-section and behaving "erratically" while in labor."

If you read the entire court ruling there seems to be more to it. Mainly her mental stability which seems to have been pretty unstable for a number of years. She also has a history of child abuse, Workplace violence and societal discrimination. I love how certain web sites and magazines cut and paste quotes how they like to make a story sound more ludicrous than it really is. I'm sure even in America they don't like taking kids out of their homes just for the hell of it lol.

Look at Britney Spears haha If she can keep her kids anyone can!

Actually Britney Spears doesn't still have her kids , KFed was awarded (by her I might add) sole legal and physical custody of the boys with generous visitation rights for her.

And though this woman might have had her child taken away for other issues, the reason this whole thing was set in motion in the first place was because she refused the c-section. I've not read the whole judgement but when Drs can decide that they are right and everyone else is wrong then that's when I start avoiding them; this OB was ready to do a completely UNNECESSARY c-section because he wasn't impressed with the mother's behaviour in labour.........what kind of reason is THAT????

Joke

Simply making the point that the media tend to give scraps of info to make a story more shocking. I'm sure in a busy birthing ward full of professionals that she must have been acting slightly more off the wall than the average woman in labor to have more than one professional so concerned that they actually petition to have her child taken away. I would be completely disgusted if refusing a c/section was the only factor I'm just saying that theres probably a lot more to it than that.

But all in all yes, if that's all there was to it then that's completely warped!

I used to watch some birthing program /maternity program on Sky , set in the states (anyone know what im talking bout ?)
and every single birth I saw ended up being a c section ...

But I agree with Lisa as well and what she was saying about the media etc
