Would anyone who lives in the Northern Suburbs be interested in making new pregnant friends?

And maybe meeting up when it suits?

Hiya

Yep, I'm keen (we're also trying to organise a town meet-up too if you're interested for the 22 Aug - see other thread).

I live in Tawa - where are you based?

Oh nice. So how far along is everyone with there pregnancy?

I'm not overly well off with money at the moment, so can't really get to town to meet up, as then there's parking costs.

But maybe meeting somewhere in the surronding suburbs could be an option, or at each others home.

I just always feel a bit embarassed meeting up at cafes when I can't always afford to buy anything.

Let me know what you think.

Hi guys

I'm 12 weeks today! Had my scan last night and all is well - the little monkey is soooo cute! So relieved to get past the 12 week mark - its been a bit stressful due to previous miscarriage.

I'm keen to meet in the suburbs. I hear you Kelly re money - perhaps we could just meet for a coffee the first time? There's that Herbs Cafe at the garden centre by Churton Park which is quite good? Or Queue cafe in Jville?

I'm 19 weeks yesterday.. Almost 1/2 way!!!!
Yeah, suburbs are good for me.. not working anymore so not in town much. Queue in Jvilles good :)

Yeah the whole waiting for the 12 week mark sux!

I've not had the misfortune of having a miscarriage, but when you've been trying to get pregnant and finally do, you get so nervous that you just might miscarry as it's so common and those damn pregnancy books and week by week things seem to make it worse by reminding you which weeks miscarriages are likely to happen.

But thankfully getting to 12 weeks and having the scan is reassuring.

Herb's cafe or Queue is all good. I know Queue gets quite busy, what's Herbs like?

I tend to feel anxious when there are too many people around. Is there any time of day when Queue or more quiet?

Has anyone found once you get to like 13-14 weeks pregnant you just seem to development a very pregnant belly magically so it seems?

My belly has only just started getting big... I was pretty sick for most of the 1st few months though so haven't put on much weight at all... Think I'm starting to get there tho :)

Haven't been to Herbs cafe... Queue is pretty quiet as long as its not the weekend..? What kind of time/day suits you 2?

Yay for 12 weeks Kelly! I'll be 20 weeks 2moro!!! Have the scan in the afternoon... very exciting!

Have been feeling baby move this last week too which is awesome... went from tiny bubbles to big knocks... can feel and even see it from the outside now!!

Yay for a belly pic Kelly! I think my belly is starting to show slightly, perhaps more in the afternoons than in the mornings? Or maybe its just all those packets of twisties I've been eating .....

And 20 weeks tomorrow Michelle - that's exciting! I can't wait to start to feel movements.

Queue sounds good - I can only do the weekends as I work in town - hope thats oks? I reckon if we meet around 10.00am on a Saturday it would be pretty quiet. After 11.00 and you get the brunch/lunch rush? Or around 3.00pm when its died off again.

What do you think?

Sweet :)
So hows stuff going with you guys?
Signed up for antenatal classes yet? (I know I'm abit further along than you 2 but I was surprised at how few places were left when I booked ours when we were 15 weeks!)
Which midwives are you using? I'm due 30/12 so the BUSIEST time of year for midwives (plus loads of them are away for xmas etc) so couldnt find an independant midwife (and when it turned out we were 4 weeks further along than we thought had no chance!!) so we're with the primary care team at the hospital.. so far they have been great though... :) Have next visit on Tuesday!
Scan yesterday went well... actually think 12 week scan was more exciting cos you could see the whole baby alot more, cos the 20 weeks is checking so many things so much time was spent looking in such detail that I couldnt make out what was what (although scanner chick was awesome and did keep telling us..) all looking good though, baby all on track (we didnt find out the sex... I like the surprise :))

I haven't signed up for any ante-natal classes yet.

Are there any over this way?

I am using 'Birth Options' midwives. My midwife is Victoria Panteleeva. She's Russian I believe. Haven't met her yet, as she was doing an induction on the day I had my first appointment at 11wks, so I saw another midwife from Birth Options.

Yeah I have heard December is a very busy month birth wise. Most of the people I know who are more pregnant then me are due then.

I think my midwife is going on holiday in Feb 2010 sometime, which is when I am due. So hopefully they have a back-up option in case I end up going past my due date.

Stuff is going ok with me. Though unfortunately green grapes having been making me feel sick. Which sux, cause I love them. I have been getting headaches everyday too

I've been really headachy lately too Kelly, probably for about two weeks now. So annoying. I've also had this weird sore throat during the night which seems to get better once I wake up in the morning. Random!!

I booked antenatal classes at Tawa College a couple of weeks ago, starting 27 Oct which seems early (as I'm due in Feb) but that was the latest I could get due to everything closing down over Dec/Jan. They run them at Newlands College too if you're looking for somewhere reasonably local Kelly. I would get onto it though as they do seem to fill up fast. Where are you booked Michelle?

My midwife is Sue Whitley (plus two others - I see them all and will have one of them during labour but its not guaranteed which one). She is awesome, really straight up and a bit of a character. Had my second appt yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat - sooooo cute!!

Yay for your scan going well Michelle - I can't wait for my 20 week scan. We're going to find out the sex I think.

Stink about the green grapes Kelly, I hate it when that happens. My tastes seem to be coming back after going off most things for about a month, I can drink the odd coffee again, yay!!

Have you guys bought much baby stuff yet? And is this the first baby for both of you? Its the first for me except my DH has two children from a previous relationship, we have them for one weekend a month.

One thing I have realised about headaches. Not sure if it applies for everyone, but Pepsi gives me a major headache after just 1 cup. So not drinking Pepsi again

Regardsing baby stuff we have brought so far. Well so far we have got a real good deal on a Milano Capsule, pod & pram for $150 on trademe!!!   That was awesome!!! We got an immaculate bassinet on trade me for $49.

We got a porta-cot from K-mart for $69, it was the last one too! Got an awesome bath from K-mart which has an insert for when the baby is a newborn built-in and little things to play with attached to the side and shell looking toys, which can be used to wet baby when it's lil. That cost $50 I think.

Got a few unisex clothes on trademe for good prices and got some new ones from K-mart, Farmers, Baby Factory and got 1 cot blanket with Pooh-bear on it.

And got the best deal on a frontpack on trademe, $5 and it's an Elite, which new are $80.

And of course have a Baby's first years book.

I used to have some baby stuff from when my daughter was born, but lent it to my younger sister and well, let's just say she's real good at losing things or lending them to people and never getting them back GRR!!!

But I still love my sister to bits even if she does do that

So what's everyone else brought so far?

I saw your bump Kelly - very nice!! I may post one in a few weeks, being my first I haven't got that much to show for myself yet!!

Hmmm, things we have bought - not much really at this stage. We bought a pushchair and capsule from Trade Me about three months ago (before we had our m/c). Its a Bugaboo Cameleon pushchair which I looooove already and a maxi cosi capsule which you can clip onto the bugaboo wheels if you don't want to wake bubs up after travelling. We went a little crazy and accessorised the bugaboo with everything imaginable - even two cupholders cos DH thinks he needs one too - hee hee, so cute.

Cot is coming from my brothers house - both that and the bassinet were used by my mum for me and my brothers which is very cool. Drawers are mine from when I was little (need to be sanded and painted). I think the big things we need (that I can think of right now) are change table and baby bath. DH and I might sit down this weekend and start making a list as I'm sure there are lots and lots of things we need!!! Hurts my head to think of all the clothes, bedding etc we'll need

Have you sorted your antenatal classes yet Kelly?

No haven't sorted antenatal classes yet. I'll try remember to ask my midwife at my next appointment which is in a month. Met my midwife for the first time at my appointment today. She's lovely. Didn't get to see her first time, I saw one of the other midwives instead, as my midwife was doing an induction on the day.

Got to hear the baby's heartbeat this time

Well something that may make it worth your while is the fabulous iced chocolate they do at Queue - had one last weekend and even with no whipped cream on top, it was DELICIOUS!!!!!

Yes, not sure about iced chocolates tasting like feet!

Directions:
Queue is just off the main road in Jville, so you take the Jville offramp from the motorway (SH1). Veer left at the roundabout (KFC should be on your left) and follow the main road through - two lanes merge into one. On the left you'll see a fish & chip shop and a pet shop then there is a big Pumpkin Patch store. Turn left just past Pumpkin Patch into a small parking area which has a few shops around the parking area. There's a video store there, plus Pizza Hutt and Queue Cafe! BTW if you turn left but end up in the Woolworths carpark you've gone too far but you can still park there and just walk up to Queue.

Hope that makes sense. I think Sassy (Clare) is coming too.

Oh yeah I have put posts on most of them. As it seemed like not much was happening in regards to meet ups lately, except for last weeks one in J'ville.

I figure letting everyone know about the Denny's one once it is organised gives a few people an option for a meet up.

Still waiting to hear who is keen and when.

I know Chickielou is keen and Millyz as well at this stage.

Aargh turns out I can't make it that weekend unless we made it like 11am meet up and I would have to leave about 20 to 1. Just got back from practice for the netball team I coach and the school has organised the end of season prizegiving for the 13th at 1pm in Lower Hutt. I hate to be a pain but if we could either make it for 11am or make it another Sunday I would really appreciate it, if not I'll have to bow out and I feel bad coz we are doing it on a Sunday so I could come... I feel so bad being such a pain.

Yeah, but it won't be anything major. Probably will just invite her fav lil friend Cody and some of my friends and have a little party. She wants a strawberry cake shaped like a strawberry...hmm...not sure of the recipe for that, let alone where to get a mold from. But she is open to having an ice cream cake instead.

And yes I am considering the fudge cake, but I have one problem it only comes with the cream and not both icecream and cream, so either they make an exception or its the mississippi mud cake for me.  The idea of eating that much cream makes my stomach turn and with such a rich desert you need something to offset the chocolate.  Can you tell theres not much going on in my life?  I'm going in depth about chocolate cake.  Well its an important part of life chocolate!  Well that and starburst lollies (I've only had one packet the whole 13 weeks I've been so good)

Looking forward to meeting all you ladies on Sunday!

It comes with ice cream in the middle and cream on the sides. You just need to ask them for no cream. Then you'll be all good.

Hi all, great to have found this thread (sorry dad to be here as mum is still at work). My wife, Sarah is 23 weeks along and we are having a baby boy. Sarah has been taking yoga for pregnancy classes over at Newlands college and has really loved chatting with all the other women who are expecting (must admit I cant stop talking about it myself only my male friends don't seem that interested haha). I know she would love to come along and catch up with you all and have a good chat about the little bundle.

I will point her towards this thread when she gets in and hopefully she will come and partake in the chit chat and fudge cake at the weekend.

All the best

Stuart

Do you know Porirua very well?

If you know where the megacentre is, which has, noel leemings, the warehouse, dick smiths, baby factory. There's a roundabout that takes you in there, which has burger king on the left, well at that roundabout, just before burger king, turn left, that is before you get as far as burger king.

Here's a link to the map: http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?hl=en&cr=countryNZ&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=Mbs&resnum=0&q=denny%27s%20porirua&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Haha Lou,

Yeah, it's more the keeping MIL out of the way while the boys do the moving so she doesn't fret about throwing out every last national geographic from 1962 because "they might be useful someday". Plus if I don't go SIL will show me up and she's already the favourite, boo. But looking good for not having to go, so will see you Sunday!

Ohhh thats funny about the national geographic!!! In my experience if theres a favourite then it doesnt matter what you do, you can walk over oceans for them and you still arent the favourite.......thats my experience anyway.
Hope to see you Sun and those lovely twin boys :)

Yes. I am so looking forward to seeing you all again. Hopefully those of us who couldn't make it to the one just past, can make it to the next one. I just hate for people to miss out.

So any ideas as to where to have it next time?

I'm happy with Denny's, but if you'd like to mix it up and try somewhere different, that's cool with me

Well I know weekends are good for most people. So we can keep it on the weekend. And keeping it on Sunday in no problem. As it seems a few of you work, so the weekend works well with everyone.

Use the "Quote" button on this post to add any meet ups venue suggestions.

Denny's (in Porirua)
Herb's Cafe (in Johnsonville)
The Village Eat&Drink (in Crofton Downs)

Anywhere that is not overly priced or crowded is good.
