So Hollie has been having solids for around three months now, and is doing really well. She's had a combination of tins and homemade stuff. She's currently really enjoying her toast, banana and grated foods.
As she is becoming more comfortable with her finger foods, she's becoming harder and harder to feed. I've added baby rice and muslie(sp?) to thinken up the pureed stuff, and that was brilliant for all of a week! My question is, is it okay to let her eat more and more finger foods? Or is that letting her 'win' and do I need to stick my guns? I'm not keen on the 'eat it or leave it, your not getting anything else' thing yet, because that will mean she will feed off me more, and I hate breastfeeding with a passion at the moment. edit: to attempt to fix the spelling mistake in the title -------------  http://lilypie.com"> |

Finger foods are fine! As long as you give her a good range, and maybe sneak in a spoon in between self fed mouthfuls to keep her topped up.
My daughter will not let me spoon feed her at all these days, and it's actually really nice to be able to go out to a cafe or resturant with family and she can eat off the menu (chicken panini is a winner, so are egg sandwiches). It was hard adjusting to letting her just do her thing, but it's a lot nicer then the tears I get if I try to feed her. Cheese, crackers, sliced chicken, sandwiches, luncheon, broccolli trees, "sticks" of whatever meat we're having, plain pasta, cooked carrot sticks, big slices of avacado, banana, are all yum. ------------- http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

| i say go for it. Let her feed herself she will get plenty. Things that henry has liked for ages now are sandwiches, soft fruits like pears and bananas and oranges he also likes kiwifruit though i dont give him too much of that. He also likes meatballs, luncheon, rice crackers meatloaf, sausages. He pretty much eats anything to be honest. We have been giving him what we are eating for a while now. He will also feed mashed food to himself just picks it up in his fists (makes a bit of a mess but not too bad). Oh and a favourite is pasta - absolutely loves the stuff and will eat a big bowl full (2cups or so) all by himself. Hope that helps |

Kyle is solely on finger food, he will not open his mouth for a spoon. Seriously, he is a little monkey. A couple of times I have managed to get some of my porridge into him, but I'm talking one or two tiny baby spoons and most of it comes back out. He will destroy a chunk of banana though so it's not that he's not hungry, he just wants to do it on his terms.
Although it is a pain with the extra milk feeds it will be good in the end as it's great once they are good with finger foods as it makes meals so much easier and eating out easier as they can feed themselves. Plus when they will sit happily and feed themselves it gives you loads of time to do stuff, I use to just take the highchair where ever in the house I needed to be and give Spencer his lunch so I could get on with other stuff whilst keeping an eye on him. -------------
