Hi Ladies!

I hope you are all well.

I was wondering if anyone who has been thorugh their first cycle of IVF could help?

We are due to start treatment around May with orientation in approx Feb so I am sure it will all be explained then.... But I'm impatient!

So what I was wondering is:
Say first cycle they got 3 really good eggs, implanted one and froze two... If that first attempt fails, how long after that until we can try again with the remaining eggs (If they are still good of course)

Do we go back on the waiting list? Surely not?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks

I think they like to give you 3 months to let your body settle down, and then they go for it! This is the time frame for if they decide not to implant the first embryo straight away, but I don't know for sure so don't quote me on it! You don't go back on the waiting list. I know that for our next embryo replacement (FET) we can do it whenever we want - we just ring them up and book it in.

Good luck Parki! Oh ... and think positive ... I walked out of my cycle with six 5 day blastocysts

Hi Parki, wishing you all the very best for your upcoming IVF cycle

Re your question unfort my fresh embie ended in miscarriage and I was told to wait for two full cycles, ie 3 months, before doing the TER.

And unfort my first TER also ended in miscarriage but this time they said I only needed to wait one month before booking for another TER, of course, that is only if your ready for it.

Good luck!!

Hi Parki,

There are so many variables, and it so depends on the individual and how each cycle goes, but I'll give you an idea of what generally will happen. Assuming you have an embryo replacement 3 days after egg collection and it doesn't work first time round (as happened with us), then FAA will probably advise you to wait 2 cycles before doing a TER (thawed embryo replacement). This is because you may have residual IVF drugs in your system. With my first AF after IVF, I could see what they meant (TMI sorry), so was happy to wait for the second AF after that. It also depends then if you have a manufactured or natural cycle (we had natural, which is almost identical to having IUI i.e. blood tests to check ovulation, and then TER a few days later). You may also not have embryo transfer after egg collection if you are at risk of OHSS or other reasons, so try not to be too disappointed if that happens at that time. Not to be too negative either, but not all frozen embryos or blastocysts will survive freezing, but in the end you only need one that works. To give you an idea, we had 11 eggs, all fertilised through ICSI, one transfer that didn't work, 5 that didn't make it past the first few days, 2 frozen embryos and 3 frozen blastocysts. Now I'm pregnant with our first TER, and still have our little stockpile waiting for the future. It's way more than we ever thought we'd get, even though I was initially disappointed that with 11 eggs at 100% fertilisation, I thought we'd end up with more, but like I say, it only requires one that works.

Great, thanks for your replies ladies.

Glad to hear that the wait is only minimal before trying again.

Here's hoping we get a nice little stockpile of healthy eggs too!

What happens if the first cycle doesn't work and we don't have any eggs for back up. How do they work out when we would have our second round?

Congrats to those who have got their BFPS and/or a little one now! Gives me hope!

Hi
I am just going through my first cycle, on the dreaded two week wait. Got my blood test Thursday and very nervous! I has 2 embyos put back in and unfortunately did not have any suitable for freezing!

It is so hard to get through this, you imagine everything and my poor husband gets all the emotions hurled at hime. I am frightened this will not work and after a battle with ovarian cancer never thought I would get this chance. I was lucky a friend cam forward as a donor but it makes you really appreciate how precious life is!

I cannot describe how I am feeling, just hoping and praying for a pregnant result. Would love to hear from others who have been through this or are in the same boat as me.

Lots of Love and Take care

X
