So, I started Lydia on solids about a week ago, and THEN found out that apples and banana cause constipation! The poor wee girl hasn't done poos in a week, normally she's every day. I have canned the offending foods (pity, cos she really did love them!) and got her on veges, pears and as of yesterday, prunes! I've soaked the prunes in water, mashed them up and she's eaten about 3 of them since last night (one per meal), and also drunk about 100ml of the water they soaked in. She is also BF regularly. She's so unhappy, also teething so sore at top AND bottom, and I feel awful.

Please tell me - how long should it take for things to get moving again?!?!?!

DON"T GIVE HER ANYMORE YET!! About 24 hours from the 1st dose normally. I'm sorry she's not very happy. Apples, not too bad for constipation, banana's, would get my girl gummed up every time. For now, just offer her lots of water between BF, and only tiny amounts of solids until her tummy gets the hang of digesting it.

Three prunes and the water should get her going again but I agree don't give any more just yet. If I think C is struggling to go I will add prunes into his fruit and he will have a nice present for me after his next nap or maybe the next morning if it's been a while.

Also, do you offer water with her solids? Helps keep them regular too

Thanks, I won't give her any more, think I'd better give them time to work! Was just hoping it would be soon...

Will offer water more regularly too. Thanks

Yah lots of water Water is one of the best things for it.

Also, I swear by a little bit of brown sugar in some water in a bottle, it always got Caden going when he was having trouble, and did him no harm what so ever.

plunket suggested apple juice in water for constipation too - about 5mls of pure apple juice to 50 mls of water
