The other power thread just got me thinking about this.
Ever since we had the new Smart meter put in we've had bills that are steadily $20-30 a month higher than they would be at this time of year. No real changes to heating etc.
There was a thing on TV about it a while back... is anyone else finding the same situation with theirs?
(If you don't know what a Smart Meter is, it's the new meters that send your reading off every month instead of the reader coming to check).

Interesting... we have recently moved to this place and had a smart meter installed a couple months ago. Can't say whether the bills are any higher coz bubba came and now we have to actually turn heaters on instead of just putting on more layers! Would be interested to know what other people think though

I've moved too, and into a new place, so I can't judge whether my bill is what it should be or not, but it's certainly more than I was expecting.
The meter man was here the other day though, and we still get estimate bills, so they aren't remote reading ours yet.

ours got higher but it was just going into winter..and this place has a smart meter and bills are lower..so for us I'd say no.

they did put electricity prices up a couple of times since last winter, that could explain it.
we have a smart meter but haven't noticed too much difference

Yeah you would have to factor in if electricity prices have gone up during that time. And also because some bills use to be estimates (no actual reading done)...would probably contribute as well. My partner works for a power company so will mention something to him

Our power prices haven't gone up, we locked in a 2-year rate with Contact about 18 months ago so I can compare year to year really easily
Maybe we just had a dodgy meter and were lucky to get away with sightly lower bills for a while
