Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Sydney? We will be going in Feb for a friend's wedding - ideally want one that is:
Central Baby friendly (DD will be 18 months) Has an outdooor swimming pool and is not hideously expensive (ie no more that $200 kiwi $ at the very very most - preferably a bit less!) Does such a place exist outside my fantasy life? any recommendations gratefully received! ETA - also any recommendations on things/activities to do with a wee one? ------------- |

Susie we just booked a two bedroom apartment (friends are coming with us) in central sydney for the last week in September. It is The Oaks Maestri Towers, the oaks is a chain of hotels. It is $161 aussie per night, was on special. Has full kitchen, laundry facilities etc. Kids stay free if in your room, they hire you a cot for $20 a night I think but we just gonna take ours as we have the phil&ted one which packs up pretty small. Other friends have also stayed at Grand Mecure in Melbourne which is a chain and have one in Sydney. Also friends have stayed at the Medina in Darling Harbour, they only do 1 bedroom apartments I think which is why we didn't go for that.
The only thing the oaks not have is outdoor pool ,it is indoor. I can let you know how it was when we get back at the start of october, or do you want to get something booked? www.wotif.com is good, can get pretty good deals if you are prepared to wait till more like december to book. My SIL lives in brisbane and was a travel agent, they also travel heaps and always use wotif. I found it really hard to find suitable accom in Sydney that was not bloody expensive. Hey unfortunately Sydney and cheap dont go together at all.
Its damn exie but its a great place! All the places we have stayed at didnt have pools sorry (I dont think a lot do there) my suggestion would be to look on Wotif and then put in pool as the search and then contact the hotels directly to see what their priceing is - because wotif is only 3 months in advance if that makes sense. I LOVED LOVED LOVED Sydney the things we did were: *Went on the Ferry to Luna Park at night (fun park amazing lights on the bridge etc but probably couldnt do with a child?) * Went on Ferry to Manly (takes about 20 minutes) and its just a nice wee place there we went over for lunch and had a walk along the beach. * Markets on the weekends at the Rocks *Sydney Aquarium is amazing really is - but SO expensive! But it was great. The sharks where amazing. Although Ive never been to Kelly Tarltons or whatever its called so maybe just as good as there? * Go to Bondi Junction (where the train stops) they have THE most amazing mall there, I mean the best one ever. Its about 8 stories high - and I class myself as a shopaholic - and this mall was so overwhelming for me and I said to DH that I was overshopped - he couldnt believe it! Haha. 
* The gardens at Darling Harbour are good and there is playgrounds there etc. Was great we had lunch there a couple of times on the banks was really nice. The best thing we did was buy a 7 day train and water pass (even though we were only there for 3 days) it was great got us around everywhere we needed to go and that pass included going to Manly and to Luna Park etc. Every night we went to Luna Park and back just to go on the boat at night because it was so amazing! It worked out very cheap. Enjoy yourselves you lucky things, Im so jealous I would love to go back to Sydney again! ------------- TTC 6 years IVF it is IVF/ICSI round one 10 eggs, 8 mature, 3 fertilised BFN IVF/ICSI #2 = 22 eggs! 20 mature, 15 fertilised, 1 fresh transfer and 2 frosties BFN 2 Frosties still in freezer thank god |

Hiya, I travel to Sydney for work and there are a number of really nice hotels in Sydney. Somewhere cheapish but still fairly nice is the Travel Lodge, I think there are a few of them in the city.
You can definitely get a hotel for under $200 as long as you book really close to your departure date (like 1-2 weeks out) and use a site like Wotif. Most hotels don't have outdoor pools, just make sure you book somewhere central so that you can get around. There are tons of hotels around Darling Harbour which is a nice area of town. |

I would be wary of waiting until a week out from your arrival date - only because Feb is a busy month and you may be caught out. When the hotels are quiet they offer great deals, but if they only have a few rooms left they will hike up their prices, especially if the only rooms they have left are suites or larger apartment rooms.
I work in the hotel industry and I'd recommend looking around now and finding a hotel that has a rate you are happy with and that doesn't charge a cancellation fee until 24 hours out from the arrival (most hotels do that if you book directly however Wotif takes payment as you book) . Then 2 weeks or so out, check out Wotif and see if there are any better deals and book if there are and cancel the other one. I'm in Sydney right now! I second wotif.com.au, my partner and I stayed at the 4 seasons which is wonderful for $200AUD. Yes, it's a bit outside your price range, but this place is right on circular quay so you'd be saving on unnecessary fares. Remember to factor location into your price. |

i think i will have to get it sorted before 1-2 weeks away or i will get far too paranoid! Yeah - given up on the outdoor pool idea - just thought it may be worth paying extra for as it will probably be so hot there in Feb ------------- |
