Just wanting to hear from anyone who has used these for their baby? Are they worth it/necessary?

I brought one and never used it so sold it on to a friend who wouldn't be with out it.
I did buy a second hand one of TM at around 5-6 months as DS started wriggling round his bed and bumping his head but only worked for about a month before he could undo it. I then pulled it back out the other day to use when transitioning to a big bed and it worked fantastically. So my opinion is that it is hand to have on hand if you need the option but I would just buy second hand rather than pay full price and maybe never use it or like us only use it for 6 weeks all up. -------------

I used one when DD started rolling as she would roll onto her tummy, couldn't get back, and would start crying. I eventually had to safety pin it closed when she learnt to undo it  We used it for ages, until she got past the pulling herself up and getting stuck stage aswell  So personally it was great for us but some people never need them. depends on what kind of parent you are really? for me I was super worried...we had angelcare and he was wrapped and safetsleep just gave me a bit more piece of mind..took a while to get him out of it but saved him wriggling and hitting his head too much..
we had two - for when one got wet etc...and both were free so that helped too of course. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

never used one )safetsleep)...I believe in free sleeping and hated the idea of a child being strapped in place which is what the safetsleep basically does...i think it is better to be free and letting their little bodies explore the bed when they are ready etc...which my child did - upside down etc...but then I had the angelcare monitor which i found gave me complete peace of mind...
we didnt use sleeping bags either as again i think they are too restrictive - we used footed pjs and still do... personal choice there....some swear by one thing others by anothe be careful when using the angelcare in a portacot tho as if bubs rolls around the sensor doesnt pick up a bubba in a dip and alarm will sound...from personal experience  Ummm I still have my angelcare on her bed! (she is 29 months!)

We still use ours occasionally when Issy decides she wont lie down (its always on the bed though).
Weve used it since she went into a cot, at first to keep her on the sensor pad (as she would roll or wriggle off), then again when she learnt how to stand (but hadnt learnt how to get back down) and now when she is a pita and stands and screams, as once you can get her to lie down shes out like a light. Oh and it comes in handy when you travel as they can sleep in a normal bed safely.  ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! We have used one & found it useful but I would look at getting a second hand one, because IMO, they're pretty expensive for what they actually are.
Like Peanut, we have used ours again recently when moving Liam into a bed. -------------

We brought our one brand new off trademe for $20. Has to be one of my best buys.
We are still using our one for Maddi and it has been such a good thing to have. She is a real little wriggler in her sleep and when she grew out of her basinette she went into a regular bed for a while and that just kept her in place (untill she figured out how to undo it )
She uses it as a sleep cue and knows that when it is on she isn't going anywhere so sleeps really well. We never had one for our first and we survived without out it although looking back it would have made life so much easier. We used to have to sit beside her and hold her down before she would ever fall asleep. Maddi still wont sleep without her one (something we have to work on weaning her off) and even though she can take it off and stand up with it still wrapped around her it is still really handy. I guess its one of those things that depending on the child or the parent or just what you get used to, can be either a necessity or not needed at all. -------------

I used an Angelcare monitor for both my girls, and used a safeTsleep with Alyssa and it was awsome. She didn't wake herself up hitting the sides of the cot and slept well in it for maybe up to a year before we finally took it off. We used it from day 1 when she got home from the hospital and she slept in her own cot.
However, with Kayla - we tried and failed with the SafeTSleep. She HATED it, so I went freerange with her and had problems with her waking up initially, so ended up using cot bumpers (which I never would have with Alyssa, being a first timer and scared by what people said about them).. All babies will react differently I guess, so as much as I stll think they are great. They aren't a MUST HAVE. If I could only have one of the other, it would be the Angelcare monitor that gave me the most peace of mind. |

Not a necessity, but a useful tool.
We never used one in the bassinet, used one in the cot when he moved in there mainly so I didn't feel paranoid at night about covers going over him etc if he moved (he was a real wriggler from early on). Kept it going for a few months till we got past winter (saved on heating the room too much when he tried to get out from under the blankets lol), then put away until he went into a bed recently and we use it on there. I paid $40 on TM secondhand for one that goes bassinet - single bed. Mum has also just bought one for her house. I would never buy new - $90ish is a ripoff I think when you get it for less than half the price and all you have to do is wash it. |

You can also make them yourself, I've heard of a few people who have done it.

We used one briefly with DD1 but by the time we used it she could get out of it. Before was overly mobile having her wrapped was enough to keep her in place.
To be honest once she was pretty mobile and rolling and all that sort of stuff we finally figured that she had the strength to lift and turn her head and all that sort of stuff so to be honest it seemed rather pointless. If you can borrow one, get one second hand or make one yourself I'd do that and decide for yourself. Eventually when he got bigger he could use it to sleep on his tummy. It even stretches to fit a King Single matteress (which hes using tonight). I got two. One for home, and one for Nanas place. I used a safety sleep and angelcare monitor. I wouldnt be without either for peace of mind.
We still have the monitor on DS's bed but took the safety sleep off when he figured out how to undo it! I also had two so I had a spare. I bought one from the Parent and Child show for about $75. My cousin made hers so if you can sew you could easily make one and it would be so much cheaper. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
