I am booked to give birth at Auckland city hospital (well it still is a long way off still) and I was wondering if anyone could share the experiences they had there. What were the rooms like and did you have to share and how long do they allow you to stay? Was the food any good...I have food on my mind all the time these days...

Unless your having a cs .. you dont stay at the hospital, you transfer out, however if you are having a cs, you usually have your own room and the food is reasonable and you can stay up to five nights (all going well) .. you can transfer to birthcare when you are feeling better, and they have nicer food apparently, but the rooms are shared unless you pay for a private one.
If your having a vb the birthing rooms are nice enough .. some even have glorious views, although you may be a tad too busy to notice.

if you are birthing there because you are in one of their high risk teams then you do stay after the birth. the food is okay...but lets face it never enough. it can be a pain if you get a shared room... the ward is a nice new one (except for the c sections) so very modern looking but the shared rooms can be a bit cramped.
the delivery suites are all nice and big and some (not sure if all tho) have a huge bath in them...

I actually thought the food was plenty .. and there is a kitchen on the ward that they stock with bread and toppings should you get peckish and want toast however if you cant move the kitchen part isnt that helpful as you would still need to call for a nurse or someone to go make it for you.
Ahh yes, i forgot that the high risk babies stay on .. that ward was shared .. the cs ward had single rooms (and mine overlooked the domain, hence the reason I didnt transfer to birthcare)

I had my last 2 there, I was high risk. I stayed for a week with both of them. The last one was a c/sect.
I had a room by myself both times & was looked after very well, I worked there.
