No one cares Biz, cos if you breastfeed regardless of said bottles you are still percieved to be a BF nazi. In all the many debates that have been on here about BF, no matter how many bloody times I mention that I bottle (formula) and breast fed #1, I am still a nazi.

I fully BF but had to do bottle top up when needed as my first did not put on enough weight. I AM NOT FOR OR AGAINST BREAST-FEEDING OR BOTTLE-FEEDING. |

I am really against labels cos I think it can feed into the whole BF vs FF (and what about the EBM mums).
BUT, if I was to put a label to it, it would be ... something along the lines of "a mum who does the absolute best that they can for their baby". ETA it can also feed into the whole BF/FF/EBM/unable to BF and reliant of donated EBM ..... ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

I'll explain, lol. I'm now working for Public Heath doing some counselling for Bf and someone asked me what I did the other day, so I said exactly what i just wrote above and they went off on this huge bloody tangent about BF Nazis and how I must be one and how sick I am for forcing women to BF etc. I tried to explain tht I only help if asked etc but no, I BF so thus am Nazi! 
So anyway, my "mission statement" is actually that I support mums however they choose to feed thier babies and help them to make informed choices and offer support which ever way they choose, and help them to feel empowered withtheir chices. And yes I help mums bottle feed as well or wean to bottles etc. ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

Yeah I would just say 'mum' as well.
I don't give a sh*t what you feed your kids, as long as you bloody well feed them, love them and do the best you can by them
I think BF is a lovely, natural thing but at the end of the day, I think way too much time is spent by people pondering what people feed their babies when in 20 years time the kid is not going to care, and noone will notice the difference in their development anyway. I know heaps of mums that have shared BF and FF, for a number of factors. I've heard them called lazy by some full time BF'ers, clever by some full time FF'ers (as in clever because neither 'side' of the fence can hassle you apparently). Hey if it works for you then go for it!

I hate the whole BF v FF. Its stupid and unhelpful and undermining!
I couldn't get DS1 to latch on and was begging for help coz he was almost 10 hours old before I could figure out that if I dripped BM onto his lips he'd finally stop crying. All the stupid nursing staff did when I was asking them to help me was tell me to harden up, they squeezed my nipples and tried to stuff it into babys mouth THEN when I asked for a bottle coz Jake wouldn't stop crying and I hadn't had any sleep since his birth they ranted at me about being irresponsible and refused to give me a bottle - they said if I wasn't going to BF I had to supply my own bottles and formula! I saw a lactation consultant once and nobody did jack to help me figure out what I was doing and it was my cousin a week later who went to a pharmacist and discovered nipple shields! I was finally able to latch my week old baby on and fill him up after having to cup feed him for the week we were in hospital because of the bottle issue! I ended up BFing AND FFing then 5 weeks later after getting mastitis coz nobody told me thats a side-effect of nipple shields I gave up in despair and put him fully on the bottle. Honestly Annie - I totally wish I had someone like you come around and offer to help! It was a completely miserable, lonely experience and having someone who was supportive and encouraging and had some ideas would've been a godsend!!!! You can come be a BF nazi for me this time round lol I'd be so happy!!! ETA Hehe  sorry I still get really upset thinking about it if you hadn't noticed. Sorry I kinda went OT...-------------

| Hmm...a little bit of a sensitive subject because mums get judged and I have been on the end of that judgement many times. But if your baby is nourished that is all that matters. If you were looking for a serious answer though it is supplement feeding and loads of mums do it out of choice and necessity. |

good question! but we name so much dont we - the type of parent we are (attachment anyone?), how we settle our babies (CIO, self settle, CC), what we put on their bums... ECers, non vaccers, self weaners, and so on! |
