Just had the second test for GD.
The first one came back at 10.2, MW said 7 or below is fine over 7 "cause for concern".
Anyone know if 10.2 is really high or what the scale is?
I was in shock so didn't ask her! Still can't believe i could have it.
I don't drinl fizzy drinks or eat lollies.
Drink mainly water or milk sometimes watered down juice!
The only sugar i have is the occassional biscuit and i TSpoon in my decaf tea!

Normal range is between 4-7. 10.2 is high so your MW is right, it needs to be investigated further. However, having the 2nd GTT will ascertain whether or not you have GD - and unfortunately its due to the hormone production being different when pregnant rather than all the sweet stuff.
Carbs turn into sugar too so things like white bread actually becomes sugar in your system. Just something to consider too

agree with curiousG - its not just sweet stuff and sugar stuff that can make your levels high - white bread, potoatoes - carbs in general when broken down by the body produces glucose = sugar... i learnt this the hard way when I had GD last pregnancy and probably will this one too.

I think mine was around that when i has the second gd test last time. I controlled it by a low gi diet and didn't need any extra meds or insulin. you should be refereed to the the diabetic linic and they were really helpfull with a nutriionist and everything. I did have to prick my finger and check the sugarlevels regulary but after a week or so I could see what was effecting them and what wasn't. It is hormonal so has nothing to do with what you were eating.
hope that helps

Hi Milo,
I had a high blood sugar level prior to getting PG which surprised me as I'm of slim build and don't eat lollies, takeaways or soft drinks. After studying it quite a bit, I found there's a lot of sugar in the healthy stuff I was eating, too. But I also did find that my blood sugar level would swing from month to month so perhaps you could ask for another test to be sure?
One thing I've done to lower my level is to use xylitol in my tea and baking instead of sugar. It's a totally natural product (made from corn husk), tastes like sugar, but has 40% less sugar than sugar (if you know what I mean). It's recommended to diabetics as it doesn't effect their blood sugar levels and the best thing is, it doesn't contain any apartame or any other man made nasties.
I have also just recently been told about Splenda which is cheaper and easier to find than xylitol. It doesn't appear to have any aspartame but I'm going to do some more research on it first before I start buying it.

yeah it really isnt about sugar (as in lollies etc) a lot of people get it in pregnancy that are 'healthy' eaters..it's a common thought that only people who eat a lot of bad food or are overweight get it.. as the others say plenty of foods you wouldn't expect get turned into sugar...
my mw made me do mine when it was only 7.7 with Ethan but haven't had to do early one this time .. 10 is quite high but as the others say may be able to be controlled without insulin.

Im not sure if thats high, but I failed my first test with my son, but I passed the second test, so my MW thinks it could be what I ate the morning of my first test, which was just toast and a glass of water.

I had the run around with my last pregnancy, had to go through tons of tests because my results were "too high", panic panic yadda yadda yadda, nothing came of it.
I''ve already told my mw I'll be declining those tests this time.

Yes! They were supposed to do an urgent housecall on the Thursday to do lil miss' measles bloods for Public Health, they didn't show, didn't show all day Fri despite numerous calls from my GP and Public Health, they finally turned up at 3pm which was when I had popped out to pick up Maya from school (they were supposed to call first). So I had to take her to the clinic on Saturday morning and it was packed and she got so upset they had to give up and send the homecall again, and again they didn't call before they came and I'd just put her down to bed so had to get her up.
So yeah, issues!
