Hi guys
having a bit of trouble with my job lately and i have seen an ad for applying to be a porse caregiver....can anyone please tell me if they have had any experience with porse (good or bad) or if you work for them, and basically if you think i should go for it! im studying the caring for children course with stotts at the moment too.

im just not quite sure how the porse thingy works...my house isnt exactly set up for kids right now so would prob have to be one of the ones that goes to the parents houses....

what is the pay like and do you get holiday pay etc...time off...kiwisaver etc?

so help needed please! TIA

I don't know too much about them but I did recently contact them for care and i wasn't impressed. I e-mailed first and had no response and then when I phoned they seemed reluctant to help and in the end instead of coming out and explaining how it all works they just gave me the number of the one carer they had available in the next town from me. The woman offered to come out but was really trying not to i.e "I could come out if you really want me to" type comments.

I then phoned barnados and got a response that was so much better and the lady came out and talked me all through it and was really friendly and lovely.

I know this is from the other side but I figure if you can't treat potential paying customers well how well do you treat your own staff?

I work for porse as an in-home carer. The pay is poo but it benefits me as I am at home with the kids - so anything is better than nothing for me. The thing that is great for us is that the taxable income is really low, when you take into your rent/mortgage/transport/daily costs of running the home. It doesnt affect our WFF that much either.

I dont get holiday pay, or super or anything like that.

There is a lady that comes to the porse playgroup - shes got two kids that she "nannies" in their home and its working well for her. She doesnt have children of her own. Also, I would imagine she would charge more than I would as she is in their home.

I am a porse nanny. I have had a really good experience with them. I don't have any of my own children at the moment (but am pregnant). I go to the child's house. The pay is really good and yes I get holiday and sick pay as well as Kiwi Saver. I think you can be a nanny and go to the child's house with your own child but you just have to find a family that would be ok with that. Many who want a nanny want sole attention from their nanny. But look into it. I love it! Good luck

I had the opposite to cuppatea - PORSE were really good and responsive and Barnadoes was crap! My only issue with Porse is that their contract is really poor and omits a number of things that they then charge parents for. We totally our carer and think she's fab.
