Sorry all, I have lots of questions to ask but don't really feel comfortable going to ask my prospective waxer...which is stupid actually.

I've been contemplating getting my girly bits waxed before baby comes cause I've been told that if you need stitches or anything, they take to you with a razor which doesn't really appeal to me, especially if I end up with a tear.

How many of you have had...down there...waxed for your birth?

How much did it cost? (trying to find a good average cost)

How long did it take?

To what extent do they go? (I.E, do they go right to the...um...back?)

And how did you manage being pregnant? (I.E was it awkward getting into appropriate positions for the waxer?)

How long did the hair take to grow back?

Was it worth it? Would you do it again for your next pregnancy?

Hope this doesn't offend anyone. I just don't really have anyone I can ask this face to face (sad I know ). If you don't feel comfortable answering publically please feel free to PM your answers to me.

I semi contemplated doing that when I was preggers but the beautican advised against it if I hadn't had it done before because it would hurt like a mofo doing it first time while preggers.

I couldn't see down there to do much maintenance when I was due and I needed an episotomy and so of course needed stitches and no one took to me with a razor lol

Im with Kebakat, I wouldnt do it if you havent done it before, cos it REALLY will hurt like hell as you are more sensitive down there during pregnancy.

I

How many of you have had...down there...waxed for your birth?
I always had them done, but when pregnant I didn't start up until 18 week as they can touch belly to hold skin down to ease pain when they wax off...so by 18 weeks i was showing enough for the waxer to know where she could touch etc.

How much did it cost? My waxer charges $60, $70-for first times as you are hairier

How long did it take? 45-60minutes

To what extent do they go? They do as far as you want.

And how did you manage being pregnant?
Not awkward at all as I was always on back and you just bring up one leg to the side (bent knee and knee pointing out to the side).
The only prob I had was when I was 30 weeks preg I started getiinh all dizzy and sick and had to stop and sit up. I later realised this was from lying on my back. So to prevent it I guess you can just stop half way through to sit up or whatever. I didn't have a problem with next wax though.

How long did the hair take to grow back? Really depend, I was a regular waxer. I would get hair back with in 3-4 weeks, but have only just got a 'full head of hair back' recently

Was it worth it? Would you do it again for your next pregnancy? As soon as I am gain enough to open my legs again I will be back waxing.

I got my last wax when I was 36 weeks. I had a reaonable amount of hair back wne in labour, but not as much as I usually would have so def helped as I had 2nd deg tear, all the way back...!
They didn't shave what I had there, so no idea about that.
If you tear you are going to be sore and uncomfortable anyways so a bit of shaven hair woulnt be the end of the world!

also, if you do decide to wax, I would suggest starting straight away and going every 4-5 weeks. I was every 4-5 weeks so it would be eaier for the waxer and less painful for me.

You could just start with a standard bikini line wax to get the "feel" for it and then take it further if you wanted. Its up to you how much is taken off.

My waxer said it is really common for pregnant ladies to get a full brazilian and they wax until 2 weeks before baby is due. Time taken varies but the first visit is always the longest and cost is around the $60 mark.

Its not as bad as you think it will be

if the only reason you want to do it is because they might shave before they stitch you up (if needed) well i am with Stavey (kebakat) is that when i had to be stitched for my first (only natural that I needed stitches) they never shaved me before doing - I was ripped to shreds LOL sorr horror storyt there - so last thing I guess they thought about was having a tidy up so to speak

I have never got a brasilian and don't plan to - it would hurt lol

45-60 mins for a wax!!!! OMG you need to go somewhere else. No matter what stage of "maintenance" I'm in it only takes 15mins max and she just asks me to put a bent leg outwards depending on the side then tucking both legs up to finish the back so couldn't imagine it would be a problem at any stage of pregnancy. But first time is pretty sore so if you haven't had it done before pregnancy may not be the time to start. I'm planning on keeping it up till the end.

I have been to 4 different places in my waxing times (7 different waxers altogether) and they have all been that sort of time. I'm quite happy with my current- maybe I am just 'hairier' than you or they do a better job?

I get waxed all the time and right till the end of pregnancy, I agree with wat everyone else said with it, a bit off topic but my waxer, waxed someone when they were 38ish weeks and half way through to the clients embarasment her waters broke.

I've actually been wondering this myself.  I'd love a brazillian (and so would Dh).  At the moment I use a trimmer down there.  They only razor you if you need a ceasar - which they did to me in prep for a ceasar with Rico, except they ended up getting him out with forceps instead.  I only started trimming down there after having Gia, so everything was very "old school" there with my first 2 labours.  I had stitches both times and the hair didn't bother me.

I used to get brazillians prior to getting pregnant but stopped once I was about 14 weeks along. Now I am so swollen 'down there' that I can't imagine having one! I just use my bikini trimmer (although cannot see what I am doing!).

I used to get brazillians on a regular basis, stopped when I got pregnant with DD1 but then had one when I was 36 weeks pregnant.

Yes it hurt, but put it into perspective, it doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as childbirth and is a lot quicker! My waxer sounds like they use the same method as Lillibit's, and takes no longer than 10 mins.

I'll be getting one around 36/37 weeks again this time - not because of a c-section possibility, but for things to be tidier/more hygienic with the bleeding after birth.

the thought of it makes me cringe. you girls are far braver than me. All I can add is that the do shave you for a c-section and in my case they didnt do a great job and then the dressing stayed on for weeks so the hair grew back. When the specialist ripped (yes ripped) off the dressing it hurt and then I had to shave myself to before putting another dressing on and that totally did my head in as I was so paranoid about hurting my scar and it was partly numb and just felt all wrong (all in my head though). I'd be tempted to get a bikini wax to feel tidy and then maybe wax a bit more along the top so you are all set should you need a c-section.

Man if i was every going to get a brazilian (which i wasnt) Im certainly not now!!! phew......sounds way too painful.

My last csection i got given a razor and my DH had to shave me, they wouldve done it but i had the option of him doing it and ............i trusted him with it.......strange as it was.

I am contemplating just having a trim up now as im suffering from really really corse hair down there.........its like im growing wire and the toilet paper seems to get stuck to it (sorry TMI) it also seems to prick me and gets uncomfortable........but im worried also if i trim i will get the same prickly feeling that has happened in the past when ive trimmed up........

I tell ya, as if the childbirth isnt bad enough with having legs spread and being cut etc we have ALL these other issues along the way............if it werent for instinct etc then having children really doesnt have any good sales pitches.........i would hate to try and be a salesperson in pregnancy and childbirth

someone mentioned a bikini trimmer?? Where do i find those? I dont have a bikini line, ive been quite lucky in that area but i could use something like that to trim........or would my DHs beard trimmer on razor work? I dont want to remove anything i shouldnt

I'm with Kate, I've been to several different places and around 45 minutes normally I think, how on earth do they get it done in 10-15 minutes?? The place I went to in Akld was usually an hour, she was a perfectionist and every last tiny hair was taken out lol.

And ditto what the others said about stitches, I didn't bother maintaining down there when I couldn't see past my belly lol but didn't need to be shaved for my stitches.

DP has offered to shave for me as I can't see what I'm doing but I declined that offer. I know he wouldn't actually intentionally hurt me, but he'd get a kick out of tricking me into thinking he will and I'd be so wound up over it I'd kick him in the face.

I managed to shave my legs today. That was like a major feat for me. had to do it in the bath.

Might have to see what my waxer suggests. I've had my legs waxed and that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought.

Hmmm...I'm actually a bit worried about waxing with the expense and upkeep seeing how I don't have much of an income.

I'm thinking of getting one done and was actually going to start a similar post lol
anyway Ive only had a bikini wax done and that was before the boys and I found it quite painful
do you think my pain thresh hold will be higher now? and do you think I should get a Brazilian done soonish so I know what that pain will be like later on?

tastic - my waxer said something about gettin it done around when your period is due is often worse because of the hormones, dunno how that translates into pregnancy hormones. I reakon if anythin get a extented bikini, or californian just see how you go, if its all sweet when you get the next one get a braz. Im a regular waxer and I do find it more painful while Im pregnant and for some reason the left size is also sorer than the right.

How many of you have had...down there...waxed for your birth?
Err not too sure now as Ive had a few done

How much did it cost? (trying to find a good average cost)
$50 for a regular visit but $60 for a full (havent been for a while wax)

How long did it take?
45 - 60 minutes

To what extent do they go? (I.E, do they go right to the...um...back?)
I get a full bikini wax (aka brazilian) except for the back. I find it too uncomfortable with the re-growth in that area so only do the front and middle part IYKWIM.

And how did you manage being pregnant? (I.E was it awkward getting into appropriate positions for the waxer?)
Nope, just lay on my back with knee bent to the side if that make sense.

How long did the hair take to grow back?
Usually 4 - 5 weeks

Was it worth it? Would you do it again for your next pregnancy?
Yep sure will! I felt much more comfortable knowing I was 'tidy' down there.

If you havent done it before I suggest you start with perhaps just a bikini line to start with to adjust cos for the most part the pain is managable but there are some more sensitive areas.

Carin- if you do decide to get one, I would suggest making sure they use 'hot wax'. They layer it on, wait for it to dry then yank. It is meant to be much nicer than 'strip (cold) wax'.

You can get bikini trimmers from Farmers, in the small appliances section - by the hairdryers/straighteners etc.  I've had mine nearly 2 yrs and use it to trim everywhere.  Now I can't stand it when it gets too long, so trim up every few weeks.

Sorry, can't remember who asked about them.

Well I have booked myself a bikini wax for next Wednesday. The lady I spoke to was really helpful (I bombarded her with questions) and booked me in with her.

She suggested I take a Panadol (or two depending on my pain threashhold) before I come in and that tends to help with the "sensation" as she called it.

haha im sorry but that is way too much information.

Amstaff it really isnt a pleasant experience the first time so not sure you would want to wait until your nearly full term so why not go in as soon as you can. When booking make sure you tell them its your first one as naturally you will have more hair than getting it re-done so they might have to have a trim up first. Hair needs to be quite short, shorter it is the less it hurts!

Thanks Italiah, so you didnt get that prickly itchy thing going on?

Ive also heard after a brazillian that when it grows back its really itchy??

Sorry Inlove - but its TMI for me also and im just super glad its only something ive suffered from being preg and it wil go away and i will go back to having very little hair that doesnt need "weed control".......and i would put money on me not being the only one that suffers from it...........like all these lovely pregnancy things

I'm going for my bikini wax next week and I'll see how that goes and then book the full monty.

I'll try to get one or two in before I'm full term as well.

I'm pretty good with pain (got my whole back tattooed) but this is a different kind of pain.

How much did it cost? (trying to find a good average cost) $45

How long did it take? I actually have no idea I never pay much attention. It always feels longer than it really is though lol. I'm sure no more than 15/20min

To what extent do they go? (I.E, do they go right to the...um...back?) I got a full Brazilian when I was 36 weeks pregnant with the twins I was due for my c/s the next week.

And how did you manage being pregnant? (I.E was it awkward getting into appropriate positions for the waxer?) I felt sick on my back but the place I went to had could elevate the back so I wasn't completely vertical. The lady doing it thought it was all hilarious because I was freakin HUGE!

How long did the hair take to grow back? 5-6 weeks

Was it worth it? Would you do it again for your next pregnancy? Absolutely I usually get it done anyway but stopped when I became pregnant. However I knew they would shave me for the c/s and I didn't want hair growing in the stitches plus what if I had a cute doc lol I don't want him seeing me all wild and untamed

I actually tried to do this myself once, and i mean myself, no professional waxer involved lol. it was a great idea with the top bit but then i put the wax and the strip a bit lower and sh*t did that hurt. but then it was uneven so i had to force myself to do the other side to even it up.

ROFL sounds like something I'd do. In fact I did it to my legs a few weeks ago. It didn't hurt on my legs but those home strips are never as good as a professional waxer and I ended up all patchy. Just climbed in the bath and shaved after that. LOL

I stopped waxing when I got pregnant too and am scared its going to be really painful going back now - think I'll bite the bullet and do it anyway - feel so much nicer being hair-free in that  area
