No heated arguments here please. I'm pro-imms to the degree that I got them done for my boys but I don't yell at the top of the roof about it.
Due to my boys being around a bubs with measles we got the boys MMR jabs done 1 week before they reached 1 year of age. The imms NZ guidelines are that if your baby's under 1 & get the MMR jab then they need it again at 15months but if over 1yr then they don't need it again until they're 4. I'm wondering whether you think that just 1 week would make that much of a difference and whether I should just leave it out at the 15months jabs even though the guidelines say otherwise. My thoughts at the moment is that I don't want to have the boys at risk of getting any of these illnesses but I can't see how 1 week would make that much of a difference so am inclined to not do it. Obviously the guidelines have to put a stake in the ground about before 1 year & over which is why they're recommending it. Thoughts please? ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

I would err on the side of caution especially since twins are usually prem (Im not sure if yours were)

Yeh, they both say to do it but they're following the guidelines too. Yeh they were a month prem,

The recommendation in chch has been to now immunise at 12 months and again at 13 months or if over 15 months and under 4 to go and get the second jab now.

I would also ask your GP as the stats are that 90-95% of all children are immunised after the first injection. I don't know if that makes a difference for you.

Yeah I wasn't implying you should go ahead, just that the info given out is obviously differing from one region to another so perhaps another chat with the doc is in order and if he doesn't know then maybe he should find out off someone who does. -------------

That's who I rung as did the doctors & nurse & they all say do it because the boys were done before 1 year BUT I'm dweling on the whole 'put a stake in the sand & if done before 1 year must get again at 15month' where my boys were go close to 1 year.
I think since they put those guidelines out for chch (must work for auck too) then it must be fine to get them done so close to each other and is still needed. ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

Chch seems to be more proactive about measles than Auckland (just based on my conversations with MIL, a practice nurse).
When I was talking to my practice nurse and my MIL, they both said it was my choice whether I did the MMR when Dan has his 15 month vax or whether I leave it till he's 4 but that for any age kid, they are happy to do the 2nd vax after 1 month. Interesting Fliss, are you saying that the Dr. said he should be fine until his 4th b-day with just the first jab?
Totally agree Fliss, I'm usually pretty strong willed & decisive on what I feel is right for the boys but in this instance I'm a bit confused & unsure. Thanks for all the commments guys. ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

| I talked to my doc about this the other day as I was concerned about my 7 month DD coming into contact with measles when she starts daycare next week. She said something about the jab they give them before their 15month jab being weaker than the normal 15month one, as bubs will still have some of mums immunity, which is why you also need to go back at 15months when this immunity starts decreasing. Perhaps the stake in the sand thing is that after a year they give them the full strength MMR, and before its this milder version? Maybe just have another talk to your GP... |

i figure one week wouldnt make much difference? i would prob err on side of caution and do it twice..as long as more than a month apart it's fine..
the only thing i dont like about E having had his two already is he doesn't get one at 4 so that's it for many years:(! ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |
