DH has a job interview in Whakatane on Monday and we are gonna head down for the night on Sunday and so I am hoping someone can recommend a nice place to stay and somewhere kid friendly and yummy to eat. I have never been there before hence why I am heading down to and would love suggestions for where and what to look at while he is busy and somewhere for feeding and nappy duty
Sorry this is so rushed someone is grizzling at my feet

Umm, not sure on accomodation sorry, but I know there is a new shopping complex as you arrive into town, on the right, just before you go over that bridge. Maybe you can hang out there while Dh is busy. I think there's a kmart there, a cafe or 2, and more shops. Haven't been there myself but driven past plenty.

Not sure on your price range but here are a few motels that I would recommend.
On main road into town
- Pacific Coast Motel
- Livingston Inn
Close to main street and river
- White Island Rendezvous
The shops you are talking about is "The Hub" complex (Farmers, Kmart, Postie Plus, No 1 shoes, Rebel Sports, Briscoes, Harvey Norman) - nice shops in the main street as well.
Most restaurants in town are child friendly - good Thai restaurant at Global Restaurant (above post office) - Roquette another good restaurant but higher priced (beautiful food though)
Hopefully the weather is good and you can head over to Ohope beach.
Good luck to your DH with the job interview - Whakatane is a lovely place to live.

I knew Paws was going to come on here and recommend Ground Zero. I agree, the coffee is good, and I am really fussy about coffee.
