i havent really found one that i REALLY like, ive searched TM alot and also various websites.

what are YOU using and how much did you pay for it? Do you prefer/use it more than a pram while out? this is the main thing im looking at, rather than haul a pram out all of the time, a sling looks more handy, i know people use it around home too but dont have a need for that just now

this week just gone was international babywearing week... there was an expo out west auckland way. of course its too late for that now but you could check out the slingbabies website for info on diff types of slings and carriers.

i used a meitai to carry my baby when i took the boys to kindy when she was a newbornt hen later got a dulce & zoet sling which i still use occasionally on short trips into the bank etc and she is now 18 mths old. My husband uses the ergo and puts her on his back when we watched the kid play soccer and will probably use it this holidays when we take the kids to see tane mahuta too.

I have a Naturessway one. They are usually $75, but I got mine for $55 as I know the manager.

I love it. It is really comfortable and versatile.

I've had a Nature's Sway, a D + Z style one and a Moby, and I heart the Moby. I hadn't used it for ages but had it out for Babywearing week last week and it's gotten me all inspired again so yesterday I did a hip carry with her at the supermarket. It's so versatile, and I love that she is 100% secure in it so I have both hands free - I've even worn her while I bathed the gremlins when she was tiny.

I used a Premaxx one. Its dutch and they come in the coolest colours. I think I paid $120 for it but everyone commented on it when we used it. My husband wore it more than me and he still felt "manly" wearing it

Ive got a couple of Dulce & Zoets, Ive got Rach's Moby and Ive been using an Ergo (and have ordered one)

If you are in AKL or WGTN I would go to a slingbabies meeting so you can have a play with lots of different ones so you can see what suits you.

Kelly - if I ever come visit you before your kid starts school, you could have a play with my Moby and see what you think. It's trickier to get bub in and out of than a sling (unless you do the hip hold) but bub is more secure.

I have a ring sling too, got it for $10 on TM. It's easy to use (once I googled for the instructions and found a video on how to use a ring sling hehe) and my baby looks really comfy in there too!

This may sound quite silly, but those of you using a natures sway are you able to pop a photo on here if you have used it for a newborn. I'm tried to put Seneka into ours a couple of times and it just looks awkward and she looks so uncomfortable so I kind of think I'm doing it wrong...I'm trying to follow the instruction but she still looks mega uncomfy!!! and it feels like she's going to fall out

Thanks!!

I tried a D&Z and hated it. Got a Moby and wasnt expecting it to work....ITS GREAT! James didnt really like it as a little little baby but I think that was because I wasnt confident using it.   However I got it out again and it was great. I am actually using it a lot at the moment as it is easier than carrying 9.5kgs around in my arms. Ihad him in it all day Saturday and no strain at all on my back.

I had a front pack for Tom and HATED it...must get round to selling it.

Its a bit fiddly to get on at first....but I practised a couple of times in front of the mirror and once you get the hang of it you realise its actually easier than you think. The biggest problem is it is so long that you end up trying not to drop it in puddles etc and you feel unco.

Yes, is there a trick with that? I feel silly in the car park throwing big strips of material round and trying not to let it drag on the ground with this lovely weather we are having at the mo.

@ Dani01, i was never confident with our natures sway, so we sold it. I thought it always felt 'wrong' if that makes sence.

I normally put my moby on before I leave home - that way when I get somewhere I just put DS straight in - using the reflection in the car window if necessary to see what I'm doing.

An ergo is a soft structured carrier that you can wear on your front or back (or hip) .. Elias 's it.

He is too long for a sling but not big enough to sit up in one so Ive put mine to the side till he is bigger. I still carry Issy in the sling when we are out at the mall or something and she doesnt want to walk.

I wanted a moby but they were so expensive - so I went to Geoff's emporium, bought 5m of t-shirt material, cut it in half as it was about 1m+ wide & folded it in half (width-wise so it was about 30cm wide with two layers - does that make sense?) - actually got 2 wraps out of it for $15 as the material was only $3 a metre.

Then I jumped on moby website, and looked up wrap instructions and downloaded the pdf. Practiced at home. Now I just tie it before I leave home, and can pop in and out of the car easy!

Trimmed the end as it stretched leaving enough to make it bigger as he gets bigger. Amazing what you can do with 5m x 70cm of material!

I have to second the recommendation of checking out the Slingbabies website, the link is here:

http://www.slingbabies.co.nz - Slingbabies

I will confess I am a bit of a babywearing nut, but of all seven slings I have my favorite at the moment is a mei tai (mine is a Kozy Carrier), quick to put on and easy to use when I'm on my own (which is most of the time). I do like my woven wrap, and am still to try my Moby but will get there eventually!

I prefer baby to be a bit older for a pouch sling but some find them perfect for smaller babies, each person and baby are different.

Edited to add: Comfort wise the mei tai holds up really well, the Kozy has nicely padded straps, and my Tiny Girl is in there an average of six hours a day (asleep). Definitely easier for us than using the buggy!

I've had so many slings, front packs etc and the only one I will ever bother with again is my hugabub (think moby is the same) so easy to wear and put on. No pressure points to create sore spots and it is completely hands free, keeps them right next to your heart too which bub absolutely loves. Plus it goes from newborn to toddler (if you really want to haul a toddler round!).

I love my Moby! I received one as a gift and I am so incredibly grateful for it! I also have a dolce and zoet sling which I think will be good for quick trips when he's a bit older but he felt really awkward in it when he was little. Wasn't long before he hated being horizontal in it as well as he couldn't see in it.
The moby is so comfy though and he's really content in it. Often falls asleep and I find it really easy to put on once you get the hang of it. I usually tie it before I leave home too, learned after tying it in the carpark a few times where it was a bit awkward and dirty! I use it all the time, used it today to go grocery shopping. Find it great in malls as well where it's difficult to get a bulky pram in and out. They're around $70-80 I think for the merino ones, or you can apparently make them yourself much cheaper.

Good luck with your decision, I ummed and ahhed over this for ages while pregnant and eventually made the wrong decision for me....oops! I wasn't to know
