My very good Australian friend got married in august (when I was due with DD). I obviously couldn't go. They asked for $$ to go towards their honeymoon by guests, however I didn't get round to it at the time, so now that money wont be meaningful as they have had their honeymoon. So I need to get them a real gift. I dont think they need any basic house things, so i wanted to get them a NZ type gift. I have no idea what and I live in a small town so only so many places I can look.

Any ideas?

Have a look here - http://www.vault-designstore.co.nz/ - Vault Design Store - click on NZ favourites and there are some great presents. I sent 3 small photoblocks (pohutakawa, beach scenes) to Australia as a wedding present and my friend loved them.

Where are you located?
there is a place just out of Hamilton which I think is called 'a very splashy business', and they make like platters and bowls and fish looking things. Anyway, apparently you can get them to make one off's that have the couples name or initials on the item.

i just googled it and the website is www.splash.co.nz Having a look at the website will better explain what they do...
