I have a ten month old poodle who has managed to ruin every dog toy so far! I wouldn't mind so much except the little bits that he shreds them into are no so appropriate for my ten month old daughter, and poor pup has nothing left to play with.
We've had netballs, soccer balls, tennis balls, tennis balls shaped as bones, latex squeeky toys, solid rubber toys etc. My FIL is a plumber with a poodle of his own and gave him a piece of pvc piping, thats still in tact! I'll try a kong, but any other ideas appreciated too :)

I have a lab and a cocker spaniel and the only thing that has lasted has been a kong. I have spent hundreds of dollars on toys!!
The only other things I will buy are stuffed toys for dogs. This is because when they chew holes in them I can sew them back up again which means they last longer than rubber/plastic toys. I have some waiting on top of the fridge for me to sew up at the moment!
I always give them used toilet rolls and glad wrap/wrapping paper rolls because they LOVE them, they are free and I just pick up all of the pieces once they have shredded them.
I really think it depends on the strength of the dog as well because I have friends with smaller dogs who give them icecream containers, plastic bottles and things like that and they last, but they never would with my two!

Tried the icecream container thing lol. I've been trying to find bits and pieces that don't look quite so rubbishy when they are pulled apart too, although I like the toilet roll idea!
So your kong has actually lasted? Lol I first thought when I got the pup I'd never spend a whole lot on the expensive dog toys, but I think I'm going to eat my words

We had the same problem, although ours are a bit bigger than your poodle. The only thing we have had sucsess with, (staying together and the dogs like) is the Holee Rollers. It lasted about 6mths with 2 bullys tugging at it, which was a record for a dog toy. Have now got a Holee Molee Extreme
Which is awesome, no bits breaking and they throw it round and go crazy.
Kongs always a good bet, i just found ours liked balls better.

I bought a similar thing to that as well, but perhaps not as tough because mine didn't last that long. The thing about the kongs is that they are made from extremely tough rubber so last ages. There are several different shapes you can get as well, including balls. You can buy them off TM for slightly cheaper than in the shops.

Rope toys can last for a while too. During summer you can also freeze a piece of meat in a block of ice and it'll keep the dog occupied for ages trying to get the meat out of the ice.
Could possibly try a cricket ball too for outside?

Rope lasted a few months, and it's only gone because it's lost not destroyed, so it may well worth be replacing that one :) A cricket ball is a brilliant option, and I love the idea of freezing meat too, thank you :)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Dogs/Toys-treats/auction-243765459.htm - Here's an example They usually have a lot more.
The rope toys are bad with my dogs, they chew on the ends and then end up swallowing a whole heap of the threads.

I agree with Huntd, those Hollee Rollers are the only thing that our Staffy has not destroyed. We brought ours over a year ago and it is still going strong and Jet absolutely loves it to bits. We reckon he loves it so much cos he hasn't manged to destroy it yet.
Any other toy just gets annihilated (sp?) in a matter of minutes.

We have a Staffie who is soooo good he doesn't chew anything except his toys, but geez he gives them a hammering. We always joke we should offer him out as a tester for "extreme" toys. We've spent a LOT of money working out the toys that last for longer than 10 minutes.
Kong's are great, but get the right colour to match chewing ability. Black all the way for our Staffie. The red varieties only last a month for us (but might be good for a poodle). And that Holey Molee extreme (above) is great. He gets through them but it takes about 6 months and even when they're starting to come apart he loves them and you can put treats in to keep them busy as well.
What else; good quality tennis balls (from a sports store - NOT a pet shop). They eventually get shredded but last several weeks and he loves them. We do buy ropes because he likes chewing through them and it cleans his teeth but we only get one every couple of months. We keep the knots to give him again later 'cause he enjoys chewing them as well. Some of the heavier duty fake tyres are also good. Again our boy can get through them eventually but they last for a while.
There are others but those are his favorites.
We just make sure we rotate the toys so he doesn't get bored of any one of them.

Oooh, I'll be watching this thread. NOTHING has lasted with our dog, he demolishes everything, even kongs. We do freeze a bone in an ice cream container of water for him in the summer and that keeps him entertained for a wee while!

The only 2 things that survived our lab was the cheaper version of a Kong (its a red ball about the size of a grapefruit) and rubber bone from countdown.

Rubber inflations! Our Staffy is a big time chewer. We went through about a million GOLF balls before someone told us to use our old inflations. If you happen to know a dairy farmer you could probably get them for free but if not then a pack of 4 is worth anywhere between $10 - $50 (depending on brand) from RD1, Wrightsons or Farmlands. They last a long time & if you can get the cheap ones then doesn't matter if they chew them up eventually. They don't look like much but they are very good for throwing/fetching games or just letting them chew

We have a really cheap version of the kong. They were about $5 from countdown.
We have a Staffy x who shreds stuff very well. He's got a lot calmer and shreds less since we got our kitten. They play together for ages.

I havnt read all the posts, but I highly recommend Kongs.. we have a bichon/maltese who loves chewing stuff and has destroyed every dog toy that wasnt a kong.... and I like kongs cos you can put stuff in them as well to keep them ultra occupied. I also use the toilet roll idea and Rocky loves them too. Although a bit of a pain to clean up after but cheap anyway!! GL!

I have a corgi and a foxy and both destroy everything but a kong or a rubber ball. The rubber ball is great we got it from animates and it's 1cm thick so they can't destroy it and they have a great time playing with it!
If all else fails I've found squeaky soft toys are good - mine haven't ripped them up but they like to squeak them and slobber on them
Also like other suggested the rope toys, you can get ones with tennis balls on the end, I've found they don't destroy the tennis ball but love swinging it round by the rope.
