does anyone know anything about this? My usual ob scans to see if the growth of baby is as expected and I saw someone else who measured fundal height...and he mumbled something like...oh your up to there already...so I was wondering if anyone know what the fundal height should be around 19-20 weeks. is it all the way to your bellybutton yet? does it matter if you are tall or short?

I'm not sure what it should be at that stage but I do know it depends on many factors so isn't very reliable. I was always about 6 weeks behind fundal height wise even though bubs was bang on the 50th percentile. I have a long torso and carry low so I never get passed about 34 or 35 week height.

I don't think my mw stuarted measuring until I was close on 30wks or maybe it was around the 25wk mark. Anyway she only measured for about half doz appts so I was quite a way along. Generally it is 1cm per week so if you are 30wks you should be about 30cm - I think?? I think the main point is that you continue to grow/increase rather than what the measurement is

As far as I know, it's measured in centimetres and from around 25 weeks it should be roughly a cm a week, my MW always used a tape measure and I tracked along perfectly for my actual gestation.

For the "average" person by 20w the top of your uterus should be able to be felt at belly button height.

Yep, its 1cm per week. Around belly button height sounds about perfect. But I wouldn't worry if its more or less than that either.

just be aware some mw compare it to your bellybutton (lazy way of doing it) but i aparently have a really low belly button so when the student midwife did mine at 20wks and said i was 8cms above bellybutton my midwife made her measure it from my pelvic bone. I always seem to measure 3-4wks ahead anyway. Did with henry too. But then he was born 4wks early so i wonder if that had something to do with it. Who knows...

Hmmm my MW never even bothers to measure my fundal height, she just feels around my bump and say everything is as it should be, although the scans I've had are measuring big for my EDD, so it's got me a little bit baffled...

It really depends on who does the measuring, position of baby, how many pregnancies you have had, whether you have a tilted uterus, anterior placenta. If you have a short torso, or a low pubic bone it will make a difference too.

First time around I was consistantly perfect for their measuring, then second time I was 2 weeks ahead, and the 3rd time I was 4 weeks ahead lol and sometimes if baby was in a different position, or the time of the day it varied also lol its only a rough idea as long as its consitant :)
Belly button is aprox about half way through :)
