Hi everyone.
We have just stayed with some friends in taupo - the husband is on a diet, and basically told if he doesn't stick to it and lose weight, he will develop diabetes. he's been on it for three weeks, lost 6 kg and is doing really well.....but he hates it. he is gluten free- dairy free and sugar free (as much as possible) BUT they are coming to stay over Labour Weekend, and I need some ideas about what to buy to feed him. He can (and does) eat meat, and he hasn't been told to watch the fat intake, just the sugar. ANy suggestions about where to go, what to buy, what to cook? i will google later, but to be honest, the gluten free stuff I've tried is FOUL, so i really want more "word of mouth" advice. |

Well i can recommend the san remo GF pastas, they are the only ones I've found so far that taste any good!

| You don't need to cook anything "gluten free" as such, most foods are naturally gluten free. Stick to meat, fruit, vege, rice. I am gf and feel bad when people go to the trouble of buying something that is gluten free especially for me. |

She makes an effort to use natural sweeteners anyway. MY DD is Gluten and Dairy Free and my DH is Gluten Free (well trying to be).
Spag bol is an easy dish to make, I make it with tinned tomatoes, beef stock (can get gluten free stuff, or else just some red wine) and tomato paste. I agree with LittleSal too, I used to stress so much about what to cook in my house but now I just stick to the basics. Finding stuff that's gluten AND dairy free is a problem sometimes. The Orgran brand is 'everything' free pretty much (well other than sugar I guess) and the range that they have is pretty good. Their pasta is the nicest I've tasted so far. We get our GF bread from Pak n Save. The brand is Pavillion and they do paninis and pita bread too. Expensive though! |

I'm gluten free and as LittleSal and Tishy said the easiest (and tastiest) thing is to stick to basics, as long as you thicken sauces with GF cornflour instead of standard flour and use GF pasta or rice or potatos you can't really go wrong. If you do want some easy meals maggi has a small range of GF cook in the pot packet mixes (I like their lamb casserole) and http://www.mfd.co.nz - www.mfd.co.nz has an extensive list of GF and dairy free food available at supermarkets. -------------
