Hi

If anyone is at home there is a lady coming on to Good Morning (TV1) at 11.40 to speak about loss of babies etc.

I think I am having a miscarriage atm. Have an appt with mw tomorrow. Got to the stage where I just want bleeding to stop. Been happening for almost a week but read posts on here and it seems like it will go on for weeks sometimes! Have had a week off work.

If it is a MC I'm not sure whether to go to work or not. What did everyone else do?

Hi 1st Mum

I am sorry for your loss

I stayed off work for the first 4 days of bleeding and then went back to work. It does seem like the bleeding can go on forever sometimes! I bled heavily for 2 weeks and then lightly for 3 or 4 days before it stopped completely.

Good luck for your mw appointment tomorrow

I don't know anything about natural miscarriages but, yeah it can seem like the bleeding last forever. Take care of yourself *hugs*

Both my MC were at 6 weeks. I only bled for 5 or 6 days (like a heavy-ish period). I kept going to work through the first MC. For the second I only took the first day off, & only because I had a viability scan booked. I found keeping on working was easier because it distracted me.

I think it depends on your emotional state though. If you need the time to grive then you should take the time off.

I MC naturally at 6w3d, started bleeding on the sat, took mon off as had to get HCGs done and go back to the hospital to ge tthe results. I only bled for 3 days, passed bubs on 2nd day and after that it reduced a lot.
I hope the bleeding stops soon for you! After seeing what lemongirl and MBandbub went through it makes me glad my MC was over with so quickly...

Thanks girls. Emmi when did you know the baby had come out? I thought I passed something a couple of days ago which was like a big blob which was unusual to the rest which has just been coming out slowly (sorry if TMI). I wouldn't have known if I did'nt see it though cause I didn't feel anything.

My bleeding started at 6 weeks and 3 days as well and it will be a week tomorrow.

Congratulations on your new pg Odettenz and Emmi. Looks like it didn't take you too long to get pg the next time Emmi :)

Sorry if its TMI but it looked like the little sac, like about the size of an old 20c coin, I acutally worked out I had felt it come down as the next time I changed my pad it was there.. The sac was still intact, like it hadnt ruptured, you could squeeze it slightly and it didnt oze anything... I am so sorry if that it TMI, or grosses anyone out. it really did look like the pictures, could even see the black dot in it.. I put it in a tiny box and burried it, I couldnt bare the thought of flushing or throwing my baby out with the rubbish...
Apparently not everyone does, and I definately wasnt looking for it, I never thought I would be able to tell what was bubs and what was just clots, but it was real obvious when I saw it..
Thanks! Gosh I have been a wee bit of a worry wart this time, but trying to not worry too much!! It was actually our first cycle trying again (I had to wait to have knee surgery) so am so glad it happened so quickly    I hope that when your ready to try again you fall just as quick

I don't get too grossed out by things like that but it sounds like the thing that I saw. It just went straight down the toilet though so didn't get a chance to inspect it!

Ya, I hope I fall pg quickly too, thanks :)

I'm sure anyone who's had a MC worries somewhat. I'm sure it doesn't matter too much. As long as you don't go through anything too stressful, it's natural to worry.

Phew!! Was scared it might have been a bit too graphic!
I think I am worrying cos I dont have any MS... I just wish I was as crook as a dog so I knew the preggy hormones were raging and letting me know bubs is fine. Although I have a scan on Monday for piece of mind and I am sure everything will be fine
They say you are most fertile after a MC so youve been warned!

Emmi thats exactly what mine looked like too.

I was on the loo at the time, inspected it and then I dont know why but I flushed it.

I woke up at 2am that night with this enormous grief realising that I had flushed my baby down the loo

I was so numb I didnt know what I was doing and I am so sad about it now!

1st mum I had my first MC in Apr this year (after falling preg 2nd month of trying). The doctor said we could start trying again immediately, so we did. We fell preg again the very next month, but then we MC again at 6 weeks. Then we decided to take a month off (mainly because we were going to Vanuatu for a week & I didn't want to be preggers there). We fell preg the very next month (1st month of trying again). We actually fell preg in vanuatu.

The doctor said he cannot say whether the 2nd MC happened because we didn't have a small break after the 1st MC. No-one knows. But if I had to do it again I would probably have waited a month just to give my body a month to recover.

Only you will know when the time is best to try again. Me, I just wanted to get straight back into it ASAP. Some people need more time to grieve.

I hope that when you decide to try again you fall preg really quickly. Good luck

Regarding trying again I think that the thing to realise is that a lot of the mechanics of pregnancy are outside of anybody's control, doctors or otherwise. .

On one level it's so terrifying knowing that even if you do everything 'right' there's nothing anyone can do to stop a miscarriage so you spend a whole bunch of time worrying which isn't good for you or any babe.

But I think once you are comfortable surrendering yourself to that notion that nobody can really control the process of creation will give you so much freedom and calm which will allow you to enjoy your pregnancy and realise what a true miracle your baby is once you hold him or her in your arms.

I agree to a certain extent lemongirl, but some miscarriages are preventable... with aspirin, progesterone, a cervical stitch etc.

Editted to add: this is what I had difficulty with. I knew I had a pre-existing progesterone problem but I didnt think to get it checked. And there's no way of knowing if it caused or contributed to the miscarriage... but in hindsight I will have it tested next time.

Azza,
See I obess about whether taking the pill and no pre-natal vitiamins until 5+ weeks may have contributed to it. Oh and that I went to visit DP's family even though I knew his mother had a really nasty flu which I caught at 8 weeks which was the same size as the fetus when the miscarriage was detected at 13 weeks.

But yes you are right hindsight is 20/20.

I think we all can really obsess and try and find reason why we lost out babies, I think that's easier than thinking there is something wrong with "us" I know for a fact that I go through the blame game nearly every day and that is something that I need to work on.

I know deep down there is nothing that I did wrong or could have done differently. I am having accupunture this time and have found it has actually relaxed me such a lot, which I know I needed, so third time lucky!!??

Lemongirl, don't beat your self up about it honey, it does get easier xx

Just got back from MW and she has booked me in for bloods and a scan early next week which will confirm anything.

Am feeling much better today and bleeding has decreased alot :)

MW said if it is a MC then we should wait about 3 cycles to try again.

Back to watching Ellen :)

Azza, dont worry about bubs going down the loo, you werent to know, and Im sure bub wont hold it against you.
I wish I could have had bubs tested, to see if it was just a fluke or it was something I could prevent... So far I have got a sticky one this time so either I hope the asprin is helping or it was just a flukey first preg thing... Im still got a niggle in the back of my mind as I havnt had any MS, I have another scan on mon so will get to see him again and I will finally be able to relax
I honestly dont think you need to wait 3 cycles if you dont want to 1st. They say that so long as there isnt a 'reason' to wait then you dont need to, they like you to wait one cycle for dating, but falling pg the next cycle doesnt increase your risk of MCing. My first AF after my MC was just the same as the next one. So if you do want to try again sooner talk to your GP and see what tehy say.
Its good that you have an onto it MW, I met mine for the first time yesterday and its amazing at the difference between her and my GP (and I have a great, understanding GP)...

yeah it sucks all docs and mws arent understanding..my doc is a brilliant guy but clueless with babies and my mw is brilliant fortunately..

yeah 'm not sure why mine was tested..a lot arent but i am glad it was ... most medical people say 3 cycles and for me after my 12 week one i really just wanted to replace her.. but after the latest one i would have been ok straight away. 1st one i had to wait but it's a personal thing too i think?

Got bloods back last night and HCG decreased to 70 :( Have to have a scan next week to make sure everything is cleared out so hope that goes well.

Bleeding stopped yesterday so pleased about that. Had a good cry last night but not really looking forward to going back to work on Thursday.

Am looking foward to trying again though :)

I'm glad that you have (touch wood) had a relatively quick miscarriage and that you can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

The only possible reason that I can find from research on the internet and from my fertility clinic gyno for waiting 3 cycles for TTC again is for the State of Mind.

My gyno says get back on the horse asap and go for it! And we always do...

I have just had #5 IUI this week and have been taking aspirin for a few days prior and will continue to do so until I get another BFP whether it's thru natural conception or IUI. I have had 2 previous pg's through IUI that ended in mc... but my first ever pg was natural conception so there's always hope there... I am just racing against time as I am 38 in February and the whole 'it's harder to conceive once you are over 35' thing just scares me.

I hope that the aspirin is my 'magic cure' to no more mc's... I would go out of my mind if I had another mc.

Hi everyone, I have just had a second scan at 10 weeks and was told there is no heartbeat. My symptoms had eased off so I had suspected this was happening. Doesnt stop the hurt any less thou aye!   I am 40 now and this is second m/c in four years.. takes so long to conceive. This time Im hoping straight back on the wagon so to speak. I may start trying again in dec/jan.   I have yet to go through the miscarriage or d n c as such, will find out the plan today at 11am. Im from the June 2010 board.
What does aspirin do?

Hi Kim40

I'm so sorry for the loss of your baby. Hopefully the miscarriage isn't too withdrawn so that you can start trying again soon.

We have recently started trying again (2 weeks after MC) and got AF a couple of days ago so hopefully this cycle :)

Sorry, I'm not sure about aspirin

Kim, I am so sorry to hear about your MC, big hugs hun.
The asprin (low dose, like 80mg, not the normal apsrin you take for a head ache, its the one you use if your at risk of a heart attack) it helps thin the blood which if your bubs pass because of a blood clot then it can help prevent that...   fertility experts normally prescribe it for reoccuring MCs that tehre isnt a known cause for.
GL hun
