Lol a thud for sure. This is my third pregnancy in 12 months, fingers crossed for first baby. If I make it to the end o the year I'd have spent half of it pregnant. Specialist has now got me on asprin so hoping it will make all the difference and lots of positive thinking!

Rachel i also don't deal well with the sickly feeling either I'm kinda hoping it passes me this time round, was awful the second time nothing but being unconcious asleep would help.

Goodness M2Bee, what a hard year you have had. You must be on tentahooks getting through the next few weeks. I am so glad you are on here, hopefully we can all keep each other company as we wait.

Yay for aspirin, here's hoping it does its job and bub stays well and truly stuck.

Well, I have my first preggie brain moment this morning - left the supermarket with no groceries.... got all the way to my car before I realised. Not boding well for the next 30 odd weeks.

So now there are three.... SarahJane, Rachael and M2bee. Anyone else lurking out there?????

It's never too early, I've already had two blood tests, my veins are pretrified of needles... took three goes today! I'm getting them weekly so I had better get use to it.

I don't have a midwife yet, the person my doctor suggested is away til Nov 2nd so I'm patiently waiting to call on Monday.

Where in NZ are you Sarah?? Im in Hamilton. I have got the same midwife i had when i had my other two kiddies and she is really good. I had to ring early as she is a busy lady and didnt want to miss out on having her again.

Auckand, where most midwifes can be booked by 4weeks... I'm not kidding

But since she's been away no one should of been able to book her up, that's my thinking anyhow. I do have a few other names floating around in my head but I'll worry about that next week.

My biggest drama in my head is birth place, I'm always thinkign waitakere (which looks like it's 1920), closer, has the best professions (ie no newbie doctors) but 4 people to a room. Then there is North Shore, or Auckland or even Birthcare if I'm not low risk... so many choices depending on where your midwife works

Only thing is I think I'm getting thrush (sorry if TMI) but I read this can be quite common in early preg. Hopefully it will go away by itself

Minor freak out, my medical centre called and though oh this can't be good... she was ringing to tell me to do another pregnancy test and I though okay, my test was really faint last week so maybe it was super low and though it was a mistake but no, they have yesterdays result at 1300... and I'm getting them done weekly, told them that, and they seemed happy... so why am I freaking out???

Do what ya have to do aye.
Seen a really good deal on a pram/stroller on trademe but a little too scared to buy it yet but I figure what the hell I will need it eventually no matter what and then we don't have to buy one later on......................we'll see.

I think I'm still in shock. Still feel like AF is going to come.. Find it hard to believe it won't!!!! Obviously I don't feel pregnant so not all that with it yet!

lol HB I still feel like AF is coming although this bloody thrush is taking my mind off it!
Went to the pharmacy and they gave me some cream but at the mo its not helping much so just had a nice warm bath with no soap.

Anyway good to see you in here HB    Its still sinking in for me.................don't think I'll really believe its all happening til I see my GP and get a midwife.

Sarahjane I totally wasn't going to tell anyone about my pregnancy but damn it I couldn't help it............told my mum and my bestie but thats all!!! (for now lol)

Well last night I was having funny twinges and my tummy was all sensitive and felt like it was pulling sort of..........I'm guessing thats normal and just perhaps the uterus and ligaments getting ready for stretching maybe??   Fine this morning so I'm not too worried.
Dog jumped on my bb's this morning and I just about lept through the roof!!! Poor dog got in trouble and didn't know what for so I had some making up to do
Lovely day here so don't know what I'll do today but my friend and I are starting up our walking again tomorrow so that will be good

Congrates and welcome HB. We're date buddies! I wouldn't worry about the dates, they can easily change and it's rather rare for babies to be born on a due date.

Am in bed reading a book wondering how I can persuade hubby to bring me breakfast good start to the weekend. And am quite happy to be 5 weeks, seems like forever since I've known for a week and a half already but only two weeks til scan.

I have a baby jogger and love it. Folds up so small, wonderful sunhood, and so much lighter than mountain buggy.

I wouldn't have any other sort. It has got used most days for the last two years, and still looks good as new. Good buy!

Posted By: Buttersmum
Date Posted: 31 October 2009 at 12:33pm
Yeah thats what I had heard SarahJane.   I always wanted a mountain buggy but then I saw this baby jogger on trademe so did my homework and they say they are lighter than mountain buggy.
I also considered the folding up and watched videos on baby jogger and because I'm having a c.section thought I will need something light and compact.
Plus it comes with carrycot, storm cover, bug cover and capsule adapter so we can put a baby capsule on it which I thought is a good idea.
bought in 2008 and got it for under $500. The reason they are selling is because they are expecting number 2 so want a bigger stroller so I figured it should be a good buy and lots of others were interested so I got in quick!! lol.
I'll be a trademe expert and addict before this baby comes! lol

Oh the folding of the baby jogger is sheer genius. Once you have an 8 kg crawler on your hip and a buggy to sling in the back you will realise quite how good it is. Just being able to fold with one hand is fantastic.

Hi Girls
Well I have been a good girl today and gone for a 45 min walk only to ruin it all by sucking on a K Bar (doh).

I went into smiths city and they had baby joggers there so had a play around with it and yay really liked it so think I have made a great purchase

Feeling very tired today with the odd twinge here and there but otherwise pretty boring. Boring is good

Hope you are all well

Hi ladies how have you all been feeling?

I still feel like AF is coming So hard realising its not going to!

Do any of you girls have midwifes yet? A girl I used to work with is going to be a qualified midwife in about another month so I'm thinking I'll go with her- we got along really well at work and I've already talked to her and she seems quite excited!!

Did you girls go to doc to confirm it? I think I'm still gonna go to doc to get sent for a scan and blood tests, need iron levels etc checked. and to get a script for folic acid.
what else did you guys get done when you's were at the doctor??

I've been quite tired. could be cos of a late night last night but i had a nap on DF today lol.

Hope your all feeling ok.

Posted By: SarahJane
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 8:15pm
You don't need to go to a doctor, your midwife can do all the bloods and scripts etc. You only get a dating scan if you are unsure of dates, otherwise the next scan is the 12 week nuchal testing scan, which your midwife can organise.

Posted By: Hunnybunny
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 8:25pm
My midwife isn't technically a midwife yet, only a student midwife, give it a month
So at this stage I'm still gonna go see her, but from the sounds of it she can't write scripts etc, so will go see doctor for that, and to get him to send me for a scan lol.

Oh, and I am unsure how far along i am, honest so i'll need a dating scan

Posted By: SarahJane
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 8:52pm
I guess the reason I said that about dating scans is that I have trouble seeing our health resources disappearing on stuff that isn't clinically necessary.

Every unnecessary scan done means a slot taken that can't be used by someone who really needs it. If you were to start bleeding, and needed a scan urgently to check that bubs was still ok, then it would be hard enough to wait until you could get a scan done, and even harder if there were lots of others queued up having unecessary scans in front of you.

Ok, I will get off my soapbox now

Posted By: M2Bee
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 8:57pm
Having been in that exact situation of having a threatened miscarriage and not been able to get a scan until 5 days later... was one of the worse experiences of my life so you can understand why I completely agree with SarahJane. The only reason I'm having one at seven weeks is due to my history and needing to pick it up early if things go wrong.

Posted By: Hunnybunny
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 9:00pm
I totally understand where your coming from. And would usually agree, I pretty much never go to the docs (its usually been just to see the nurse for pill, blood pressure and weight) haven't been to emergency room since I broke my arm at age 10(ish) so in my mind, it's ok if I go for one "unneccesary" scan!

Yes, it is un-necessary. But, in my mind I need this... It's hard to explain...

Posted By: SarahJane
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 9:04pm
No, it is not necessary HB, unless itis clinically required. It is a 'want' not a 'need' and I really hope that you don't have to find out the difference.

I am sorry to be so harsh when I don't really know you.

Posted By: Hunnybunny
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 9:32pm
Thats ok, I'm not 100 % sure of my dates anyways so to me, and my midwife, it is needed, to know exactly how far along I am.

Otherwise how will I know when to go for my 20wk scan if I don't know when I'm 20wks?

I think I'm about 6-8 weeks. Guess we'll find out at the scan!!

Besides, I think there is plenty of other people out there who clog up our health system for much more minor things!

working in the industry I wouldn't worry to much about HB going for an "uneccessary" scan.   Her scan will only take about 5 mins and believe me there are alot of girls having the exact same scans and noone will miss out

I can't believe I'm still up   I'm going back to work tomorrow after having a week off after our wedding and I really really don't want to go back tomorrow
Wouldn't it be nice to win lotto and never have to work again...........dreams are free

Lurker....  lol according to some of the tickers... a scan is not "unneccesary"   Hunnybunny  I think a scan would be necessary for peace of mind and to lower your stress levels

HunnyBunny, haven't you been charting? You are in the charting thread. In that case, wouldn't you know exactly how far along you are?

If indeed your midwife and GP think you ned a scan for 'peace of mind' then of course that is fine, but deliberately lying to get a scan??? I guess I think that is just a bit off.

Besides, you will be able to hear the heartbeat, isn't that enough?

Yeah I'm in the charting thread... I wasn't faithful taking temperatures or anything though lol so I can't pin-point it down to the day for how far along I am.

Does it really matter? As buttersmum said it's not going to stop other people going. It's one scan, for peace of mind, and for DF and myself to stress less, its worth it....

At the end of the day, I'm still gonna go get it done. If my midwife has said its ok, then I think its ok. I'm sure my doctor wont have a problem with it either!!

Where did I say I'm lying? I don't know my exact dates so really its not lying.

You only need to know the first day of your last menstrual period. Which is on your chart.

Oh well, never mind. Sad.

Eeek exciting M2Bee!! Is this your first? Or have you had midwife before? Is she your no.1 choice?

Just because you know your first day of your last period DOES NOT mean you know exactly how far along you are!
not everyone ovulates at exactly the same time, I didn't. If I went by my last period I would be due the 30th Jan, I however had a early scan and it showed I wasn't actually due till the 10th Feb, this means....
I didn't ovulate till almost a week over 'normal'

and Its not sad at all, I think telling someone they are sad because they was to confirm there dates and see bubs is OK is wrong and rude

and a week either side mkes no odds, especially if you are having a NT scan at around 12 weeks.

Because I want a scan, so thats what I'm going to ask for.

Might as well drop it, I'm going to get a scan no matter what you say...

Thanks tastic, if you look at my chart we actually don't know when I ov'd. I missed a few temps so its quite hard to tell!!

*lurker*

a little off topic but there is a point...promise!

I once came home and surprised a burglar who ran off. I wasnt going to bother calling the cops as there was no way they would catch him, nothing was taken etc, but a good friend who was a cop said I must because even though yes, they wouldnt catch him, it needed to be reported so they knew there was a need for more resources in my area.

Our health system is sadly under-funded and resourced. If we all simply choose not to use the services which should be available to us because there might be someone more in need then there will be no indicator that they are under-resourced and no action taken.

HB has been in the charting thread one month, missed several temps and her chart doesn't show ov. I can totally understand why she would want a scan.
Whats more, she would be the last one to stand in the way of someone needing an emergency scan - perhaps HB you could say that when making your appointment?

I had my first scan to check for viability (I'm over 35) at 6 weeks and they had trouble finding anything, had to do it with a vaginal probe, so I'm not sure whether a doppler would have picked up heartbeat that early either.

jeez sarah-jane leave the poor girl alone, she has just found out she is preggers and is nervous and needs for her own peace of mind a dating scan...the whole point of OB is so that we can come somewhere to release frustrations and ideas we cant air out anywhere else...so please dont ruin that for her!

You go HB (not that you need my support or approval) but im totally understanding you

you can not hear the heart beat till atleast 10-12 weeks - most midwifes won't try to find it or listen to it till after 14 weeks

BUT you can see it from 6weeks

just because you don't want a scan doesn't mean others don't!

HB - your welcome. I was so sure on my dates etc when I found out I was pregnant, I went for a scan at 7weeks only to find I was just over 5weeks, it was awful, but am so glad I went and got the earlier dating scan done!
hope you get it done, and put your mind at ease with dates etc

Hi Everyone,

Don't mean to butt in......
I'm new here and i just got a BFP last night!!!!!!
So i'm 4weeks 2days preggers with baby no. 2, due around 9th July 2010.
This will be my first baby in NZ (DS was born in the UK) so i'm not sure what goes on here.
When should you tell your doctor??
So how far along is everybody?

**Lurker alert**
Yeah I agree with HB, (and Tastic, and Shezzy and others) My MW at my 9w appointment said that there is no point in trying to find the heartbeat witht he doppler as it would freak us both out if she couldnt find it, and the chances of being able to hear it that early on is very small. From about 14 weeks then she will try and find it.
So far I have had 3 scans... One at 6.5w as I was bleeding, one a week later as my HCGs were doing bugger all, and another at 10 weeks for piece of mind because I did not want to be surprised at my NT scan by having had a missed miscarriage (yes they do happen).
Every time I have "needed" a scan I have been able to book in for that day... And when I booked in my 10 week one I was still able to get it at a time when I wanted it.
Most MWs wont take you on till your 10ish weeks, sometimes not even until after you have had your NT scan. And I hate to say it but if your going to MC then your going to MC and a scan wont stop it from happening... Sure it lets you know whats going on, but I have had a MC and didnt have a scan to go with it...
Everyone needs to do what they need to do for themselves. Both my Dr and my MW have said that what ever you need to do for piece of mind is much better than sitting there worrying about it for 8 weeks till you have your NT scan..
Each to their own. If you dont wan to have "unnecessary scans" then dont have any, but who are you to say that what is unnecessary for one person has to be unnecessary for others??
Sorry for the rant

Welcome Chills!! Congrats on your pregnancy!!

I'd suggest going to the doc- you'll probably need a script for folic acid, and they might do blood tests also... It's never too early to tell your doctor, and then you can get a list of midwifes, cos sounds like you might have to get onto finding a midwife fast!

Hope you have a happy and healthy 8months and please feel welcome in here - its generall very supportive and lovely!!!

Lurking...

Just wanted to say I agree with HB too - if you are unsure when you Oved I understand that an early scan is more accurate to identify dates than the 12 week... and despite knowing the date of my LMP my dates with last preg were two weeks out! you need the ov date which unless you are charting religiously you won't have... and no way can ya hear a HB with a doppler this early!! I say have that scan HB you do need it for dates and peace of mind!

Aww cheers guys, everyone's so nice here.
I'm gonna look forward spending the next 8 months chatting with you all.

Well i just booked an appointment with my Dr to get the pregnancy confirmed and then i will look at getting a midwife, hopefully Dr will help me with that as i don't have a clue!

I know its silly but i'm worried i'll get a BFN at Dr's tomorrow so might test again today (as yesterdays was quite faint!)
