Hi girls,
I'm not pregnant, but we will start TTC towards the end of the year. I just have a quick question. In NZ can you choose to have a CS or does there need to be medication reasons behind this decision? No, I'm not "Too Posh to Push", I'm just being curious that's all Thanks,

There usually needs to be a reason why you are having an elective c section with your first. One case is with your second and you had to have an emergency one with the first. Someone else may know if what I have posted is true ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

| not 100% sure but I think if you get the right midwife or go through specialist care you can opt for one. I know in chch there is a big thing at the moment because one of our hospitals is not going to do elective c sections soon so all c sections will be done at our main hospital. also I think midwifes dont get paid or at least not as much if you have a c section |

I think midwifes don't get paid as much if it is an elective c section thats why they don't take them on. A private specialist will take you on, but you have to pay mega bucks to see them. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I don't think you can have a C section just cause 'you feel like it' I think as above there has to be a medical reason for it. Besides even though the thought of a baby being pushed out of that small hole (putting it nicely) most people get over that relatively quickly (there is always an exception to the rule) where as I hear as I have not had one myself it takes alot longer to heal from a C section. ------------- Ann

i had an elective c-section with jack as he was breech. i healed very quickly and was pretty much pain free most of the time, which i put down to having staples not stitches....oh and being tough 
i'm soooo excited at the thought of actually 'having' a baby this time around. i don't know about other ladies that have had c-sections, but i felt really cheated and like i hadn't finished the whole process of being pregnant. ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

I think you can have an elective one due to psychological reasons (sorry that sounds awful but couldnt think of a better word). But like others have said it would have to be through a specialist. ------------- Aimee Hannah 22/10/05 Greer 11/02/08 |

I had an elective c-s but only because I had one with my first son due to having diabeties, too much risk to me and baby having him naturally.. hence 2 elective c-s..
ALso my midwife is 'employed' through the hospital so she got paid the same as if I was having my kids naturally.. I had a medical reason for having mine so not sure on you sorry.. My s.i.l had a c-section, not from choice but because bubs was very big 10lb 11 (hoping this is not a family trait on the dh side of family!!!!lol), she has a very small frame as well. She found it very hard as couldn't drive anywhere for 6 weeks and very hard to feed bub because of the tenderness of the site and bubs size. I always thought I would prefer to have a c-s but after seeing her go through everything after it I am not so sure. I know that she would prefer now - if she had another, to have it naturally.
