Keep and 11wk old intertained, when she doesnt want to sleep and is awake for most of the day.

there is only so much floor time, tummy time, singing and reading to that i can do, she seems to be quite content to lie in her pram for an hour before falling asleep but it just seems wrong.

any ideas would be great, as i would hate to think i am not doing enough

pop a mobile with bright primary colours above her cot, wack on some light classical or other soothing music and leave her to it in a nice safe environment while you have a rest.

Oh - and park her pram under a tree - provided you're not somewhere freezing and she's bundled up, so she can see the leaves moving about for a while....
SPARC has developed the Active Movement initiative to get more infants, toddlers and young children more active - they are really good and can be downloaded here

I used to think we weren't doing enough when infact we were doing HEAPs.. infact looking back now I think that she might have been overtired.. the mobile idea is great and you could also try what we did, we made our own mobile and attached bulldog clips to it so that you can change the objects hanging off it every few days.. don't feel guilty or beat yourself up about it, you will look back in a year when you have no time to yourself and wonder what you were worrying about!

Dont know how you feel about it, but you could carry her around in a sling... Dont feel bad about leaving her, its good if they learn to entertain themselves

I would definitely have to agree with possibly being overtired and overstimulated.

I spent a day at Plunket Day centre when Paige was 2 months old cause she "seemed" the same. I learnt very quickly that babies up until around 4 months should be up no longer than 1-1/2 at a time and that routines are great. Up....fed...burped...mat/nude/kick time ...cuddles then back to their own room with some soft music. And it doesnt change much up until a year - 18months old. No worries if they lie there or if they cry for a while. Once I got into it Paige had awesome sleeps..right up until she was 3 and a half and she sleeps like a log now and is huge and intelligent!!Babies do all their growing when they are sleeping!

Have you ever read the "Contented Baby" Or "Baby and Toddler"...Highly recommend them.
