Strep is a bacteria that is really common and found in lots of places on our bodies...

Strep infection is when the cells multiply and have a party..then you need antibiotics. I have had infections a couple of times after operations and just needed antibiotics.

Just got to watch it at birth with baby thats all.

Down there it can make you really itchy and be a bit unpleasant to say the least. Every one has those bacteria in their bodies so its normal.

You usually get tested for it at the begining of your pregnancy and then again towards the end of your pregnancy. If you do have it, when you are in labour you will have a drip in you giving you antibiotics.

I had strep b and when i went into labour and my waters broke they just gave me some antibotics via a drip.

they can give you a course of antibotics about 2 weeks b4 you are due, but because you never know excatly when you are going to have bubs i chose the drip.

nothing to stress about as long as the doctors/midwives know about it

Thanks for that, my midwife tested me for it last week but she said the test came back fine, FOR NOW, i quote thats what she said. So after seeing some stuff via the net it freaked me out saying what it could do to the baby. Kelly you said it can make you itchy, itchy like thursh makes you itchy?? I had that no long ago but then it went and then i got itchyness again.... but it realy only seems to bother me at night not in the day for some reason.. last night i could'nt take it and it kept me awake till 4am and i itched it so bad it hurt to go to the toilet. opps Does anyone know how the infection is caught??

Its not caught from what I know.. Streptococoli *sp is a naturally occurring bacteria which can be found in our bodies..... there are all different "strains" of Strep too A, B blah blah...
When our immune systems get a bit run down or the "conditions" are good for the bacteria to mutiply they do and cause an infection which can be if a foreign germ is introduced too sometimes (thats why some people can get it when they get thrush...)
I had it up my NOSE when I had an operation to fix a sinus problem. I have also had it "down" there which was like thrush itching. Drive you nuts type.
Apparently the Strep can just sit in your body for years and do nothing.
Its just one of those weird things I guess.
I would not worry!

I had the same itchiness you just described, Bekkie - it was driving me nuts!!  At first it was only at night, but after a few nights I woke with the same, and had had enough so arranged some thrush treatment.  That took care of it until just over a week later and then... hello!!!  I just put those 2 random itchy nights down to the craziness of pregnancy - you might have helped explain it for me.  Thanks!

Despite being a good girl, I've been feeling run-down (could be the pre-existing condition I've got but I'd like to think now, the low iron waiting for those tabs to kick in, or something else)... does anyone know if something like Strep B would make you feel run-down like infections do?
