Has anyone installed an HRV/ DVS system? I am TTC and am thinking ahead ( :) ) and was wondering if anyone else thought they were benificial for there babies and kids?

We don't have one but my parents have an HRV. I think it would be beneficial for everyone not just for babies, I know I found it better with my asthma etc when Mum had it installed. ------------- Lisa mummy to Ryan http://www.alterna-tickers.com">

We have one and I love it. It has got to be better to not have condensation running down the windows every morning and mould growing on the frames etc, plus it was so much easier to keep the house warmer during winter and the place just felt nicer as well, like warm and cosy and dry (hard to explain).
Oh we have HRV. Plus there is what they call the "burnt toast mode" that helps quickly push smells out of the house, great for those real hideous nappy changes..lol -------------

my parents have had it installed and my sister is getting it installed today, I think it's a fabulous idea... but it is expensive. Yep we still had our heat pumps going but we found that we could run them at 22 degrees and feel warm whereas previous years we would have them cranked right up to 30 degrees and still feel cold cos we were trying to heat a damp house.
Is suppose to help stop flies coming in the house as well, and yep less dust. -------------

We had an HRV installed early this winter and it made a huuuuuge difference to the amount of condensation - pretty much overnight it went from the windows being so wet in the morning that the curtains went mouldy to absolutely dry, not a speck of condensation.
It may be just a coincidence, but the kids have been much healthier too - the gremlins have an immune deficiency and get sick really easily but have had far fewer ear infections and chest probs since we had it put in. Definitely beneficial for all the family, and definitely does what it is supposed to do in terms of any condensation issues.
Just be sure to research it well and get quotes from plenty of companies not just the 2 "main" ones who advertise, as they can vary greatly in price as well as what you actually get in the package you select. We recently got a Smartvent installed and it is awesome, and much more reasonably priced than the HRV (which we also got a quote from) based on what we actually got. |

| We have the DVS in our place.It was in the house when we bought it.It's OK.Yes it's great not having the wet windows of a morning but we still had a problem with mould on the ceilings in parts of the house.We have decided that for next winter we are going to get the airfoam pumped into the walls and get the place better insulated and see if that helps. |

Our house already had a HRV system in it when we bought it and find it great. It's not designed to heat the house but the fact it keeps everything at an even temperature really helps, particularly as our house can get really hot in summer.
We also had airfoam pumped into the external walls downstairs at the beginning of winter, which has been absolutely brilliant. Much cheaper than putting in batts and re-gibbing, and has made a real difference to the old part of the house, keeping it warmer and no condensation. I would recommend doing it when the weather is good as it takes about a month to dry out properly and you need to keep a window open for at least a week to ventilate. |

We had DVS put in 2 years ago, there's not much difference between them and HRV it was personal preference.

Highly recommend them. We had our HRV put in about a year ago and we think it is brilliant. We have definitely used our heater less as the overall house temp is higher therefore makes our gas heater way more efficient. DPs parents had one put in - But he's elderly and she's blind so they were rather forced into the sale and are struggling to keep up with the payments  They are so far, although they were two hours late on ONE payment and got four phone calls about it, then DPs Dad had to phone them twice explaining he'd pay the next day (he got hung up on first time!)... It's insane.
About the actual system - It does seem to work, it just would have been a better idea to install it as the weather cooled rather than heading into summer. Who needs a warmer home in summer? :P ------------- http://lilypie.com">
