Hi ladies, Ive been reading so much on how to put baby while sleeping. Ive read that on the back is the best to prevent SIDS but then heard about a little baby that died after choking on her own vomit while sleeping on her back. Then I read that lying baby on its side causes SID. Im confused. I like the idea of those saftey wedges to stop baby from rolling. | we put kobe on his back and put his head to the side (right at night, other way during the day) stops their head going flat plus were told that if baby vomits they would generally turned thier head anyway as an adult does. I guess there are always going to be exeptions to that rule though. ALso we had a movement monitor which helped me relax a little, not much cos you are always worried but made it easier |

My MiL has made us two Safety-Sleeps (I can't understand why they cost $100 each in the shops!!?!) so we'll use those and have been advised by midwife and antenatal tutor that the "latest" study says to sleep bubs on their back. But like my Mum said, I was put down on my tummy (I'm 28) and my sis was put down on her side (she's 24) and nothing happend to us but both are no-nos these days  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I put Kiya on her side (she's 5) and Josiah on his back (he's 13.5 months) and they are both fine... kinda shows the differences in recommendations in such a short time! Actually, both my kids are now tummy sleepers, and have been since they were old enough to roll both ways.
This time, I'm thinking I'll probably put Bubs down on their back, as it really was easier once the child was a bit bigger to put them that way than trying to get them to lie on their side. ------------- Becca, mum of 2 girls & 3 boys |

It's recommended that you put bubs on their back, and turn their heads "right for night" and "left for rest". I find that Joshua turns his head while he's asleep anyway if I forget. ------------- Joshua Hadynn - Born 3 May 2006 |

I initially put Hannah on her side because she was very vomity, but then put her on her back after that. I would have a wedge or something behind their head to because I used to always turn Hannahs head but she would put it back into midline!

| Okay, confesion time - Taine slept really really well on his tummy when he was tiny thing, so during the day, sometimes I'd let him sleep like that. Problem was I'd need to go in every thirty minutes or so to check on him. Now, he sleeps on his back. When I wrap him he stays on his back now. |

I had my boys on their backs but I also had the Angelcare Movemment monitors for them too which was a great piece of mind. The only thing I found with Keegs being on his back was he favoured his head to one side all the time and ended up with a flat head and had to be seen by the child developmental therapist to correct it so the idea of a wedge to stop bubs moving head is good too. ------------- Marlene Keegan ~ 14 October 2003 Jaidyn ~ 14 October 2003 |

i use a safety T with Rhiannon, and i lie her on her side, but also on her back (kinda confusing), the safety t lets her roll slightly so she isnt on either.
She is really comfortable like that. I think it really comes down to what position you are comfortable sleeping your baby in. my plunket nurse and midwife knew how i was sleeping Rhiannon and they had no problems with it. Rhiannon sleeps on her back during the day in her pram and when she throws up or spills she moves her head. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

i used a safety sleep with caitlyn it was great ( well i think so anyway) would thoroughly recommend them

No matter how I put Paige or what type of device I used to keep her all snug she got out of and ended up on her tummy. The best thing I had was a all in one sleeping bag and she used to keep nice and warm which was all I was worried about.
My Mum is a Karitane nurse and has fostered about 90 babies in her lifetime. She has been thru babies being on their backs...not on their backs..ONLY on their sides and it has gone in circles!! Changes all the time. And each baby is different. Paige ONLY sleeps on her back now! -------------
