ok so my husband is a full time student and has been looking for work and will hopefully have a job in the next couple weeks to get us through the summer and to pay our expenses for next year - anyway not the point of this post just background.
Its my understanding that he isn't entitled to time off when baby is born (that's fine as we cant afford for him not to be working) but what about when im in labour. Hopefully i will go into labour on a day he isn't working but as you all know you can't plan these things. So does he have a right to leave work if im in labour? Or does he have to finish the shift he is working and then come to me? oh and also when he's doing interviews should he tell them that his wife is pregnant and due soon? I dont want him to miss out on a job just because im pregnant |

no there is no legal allowance for such things but you would like to think even a new employer would be lenient.. !! My Dh doesnt get paid for time off but his boss let him have a few days and the day i was in labour last time paid which was very nice of him!
as for not telling them I would anyway but i can see your point.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

He could take it as domestic sick leave. I would have someone come and do the first part of labour with you and then when things get serious call him home. I only say that because I had an extremly long labour and it required a couple of days of for DH. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yea thats what we were going to do. And was thinking i will ring him once we know its labour so that he can give work as much notice as possible in saying that he may have to leave. My mum will come round and be with me. I also have a few friends who could come round as if mums here it means my son will be too which may get a bit too full on for me. I am apparently meant to have quite a quick labour as my first was apparently fast for a first (5hours active).

I would not think any boss would not allow him to not attend the birth of his child, & if he did not then he would not be worth working for. If he is working prior to the birth he may have a few day or hours of leave up his sleeve.
I would wait till he has the job before advising them he is going to be a father soon. My DH took leave without pay for some of it as he had to look after the other kids & I was in hospital awhile, but his work were very supportive. Lucky you for have quick labour mine whet on for days. |

IF he has sick leave owing he can use that to care for a sick spouse - I think labour qualifies. If you're in the situation I was with my DP (we'd only been back in the country 5 weeks when I went into labour) then he isn't entitled to anything. I laboured alone right up until I was going in for the surgery, they gave DP unpaid compassionate leave to fly with our daughter to the NICU unit (I couldn't go with her) and then as soon as I was able to be with her he had to go back to work - he had 3 days unpaid leave in total. ------------- http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

I think I'm not entirely sure though, that if you let your employer know that you are a support person for someone in labour two weeks before the event then they have to let you go. When friend was pregnant with her twins her sister was going to drive her to the hospital and sisters work were being absolute asses about it and told her sister that she should just call an ambulance. Turns out that she went into labour at 4am so that was fine but I remember her saying that if you give two weeks notice that they have to let you go. ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

Hiya my DH and I are in the same situation. He started his new job a week ago and Im due tomorro  . He told his boss when he interviewed for the job, and our plan is for me to let him know as soon as I know Im def in labour and when I need him he will come. He wont be having days off either. I feel a bit sorry for his boss cause the Restaurant DH is working in has only been open for a week and im due tomorro and the other chefs wife is due the week after, we are all just hoping that we dont both go into labour at the same time or there will be only 1 chef left to cook 100+ meals, lol------------- http://lilypie.com">
