I am moving back to NZ and have to buy a washing machine and dryer. What size machine do you have and how many in your family? How many loads per week etc. Any recommendations for a washing machine that can handle a family of 5. Including a teenage girl that really needs to learn how to wear her clothes more than once and not wear several outfits a day down to the 3 year old messy girl and the 8 year old boy who plays sports who is in the middle. Would love the magic add on feature which picks up DH's clothes off the floor and escorts them to the machine but I am not holding out hope. We can dream right lol.

I have a westinghouse front loader. I really like the way it washes clothes...only down fall it's got a longer cycle than toploaders.

I've got a giant 9kg one, can't remember what brand and too lazy to get up and look, but it's either a Simpson or an LG. I bought it when my last one (a 5.5kg) died, and having the bigger load size has made a huge difference, especially when I had three in cloth nappies.

I have a Bosch frontloader, 6.5kgs. There's 3 of us in our family, and I do 3 or 4 loads a week. Like Aliasmum, I really prefer frontloaders, they wash much cleaner, and are much more energy efficient, but yes, they do have longer cycles. I usually use the short cycle, but this still takes an hour.
I would have bought a smaller washing machine, as I find 6.5 kgs quite big, but they don't come any smaller. I imagine you might want to go for a slightly bigger one though.

We have a 5.5 kg FP. Will have to upgrade to a bigger one when nuber two comes along. I would invest in a big one with delay start next time so that i can do warm washes when our power is on night rate

I use sumsang 7.5kg front load. I hope the auto-heated system will help me killing the germs on baby's nappies.

I just got a new washing machine today! I got a F&P Excellence 6.5kg. Yet to use it but up until today I had a F&P 7.5kg smartdrive which has been AWESOME, I completely love it. Only reason for changing is the big machine didn't fit in the gap in my laundry!
