I have no idea how to find one and how much they charge etc
Do you need a referal? I need to take Isabella to one to get to the bottom of why she is so unsettled and Im so sick of conflicting advice from Dr's and plunket. ------------- |

I got my midwife to refer Jayden to Peter Nobbs but I think the referal only made it cheaper, I think you can ring and make an appointment with him? after we had been once I rang directly to get an appointment rather than being refered, if you want to go to him he is based at the Auckland Obstetric centre I highly recommend him he was fantastic with Jayden and also gave me his cellphone number to ring him anytime which was fantastic  ------------- http://lilypie.com">    [/url]

I just found out that my MW can refer me to a guy in Auckland who is an expert on Reflux and colic etc, but it will cost us $250 
So I am going to book in with my doctor for his next available appointment(he is SO booked up I havent been able to get in with him grr) and Im going to ask him to refer me to one. We cant afford to go private. ------------- |

Sheena, I can recommend two paeds at Starship. They were tremendous with Jackson.
The first one was our registrar - Dr Richard Smilie The second one was the consultant (senior) - Dr Greg Williams I know Dr Williams had outpatient clinics, so you could contact Starship and see if you need a referral. Dr Williams was so much better than anyone we saw in Wellington. Good luck hun, reflux SUCKS. xxx |

Ive made an appointment with my family doctor, for 11am Thursday, that was his next free time, and the only space left that day! So Im going to have a chat to him, and see if he thinks its reflux, and also ask about the Pedatrician. If we need to see a paed, then somewhere close would eb good, as Starship is miles away from where I live  It sucks being so far away from everything.------------- |

Hi girls,
I'm just bumping this to see if anyone can give me some recommendations on who to go to? Can't seem to find any info on the 2 mentioned here when I google them. I need an expert on reflux and I'm a little bit cautious about just picking a name out of the yellow pages as I've heard stories of peads doing no more than a GP when it comes to reflux. My boy is on losec and laxatives and his reflux seems to be getting worse by the day. I've taken him off solids (he was only getting a few teaspoons a day, anyway) which seemed to working but now he's gone downhill again. I really want a specialist to check his digestive system out if that's actually possible. Anyone ever done something like this? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

In that case, you want a pediatric gastroenterologist. A general paediatrician is someone who specliases in children, but you can then get an extra layer of specialisation. Gastroenterologists specialise in the digestive system. Yes, it's possible to check it but they won't do any invasive checks unless they are strongly suspect it's needed due to the risks of having a GA and they tend to have a number of tricks for trying to tease out what's wrong.
One option would be to contact Rodney Ford's clinic (he's in Chch) and ask if they have recommendations for Auckland based paediatricians. ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

No offence to Fliss but I personally wouldn't contact Dr Ford to find an option. He is very strong on gluten free. If you want any more info on Rodney Ford feel free to PM me. -------------

Another vote for Peter Nobbs he was fantastic with our two and was there during birth as both of mine were born at 36 weeks and saw him them a couple of times during their first year of life. |

We didnt see him for Reflux, but O had a lot of problems with bowel movements when he was tiny, and we couldnt get any firm answers from anyone. Peter also saw him when he was 3 days old and we were still at Birthcare and he was fantastically reassuring and made me feel less like a neurotic first time mum! He has a very calm manner and I found him really good at explaining things and making us as parents feel comfortable and that we werent neurotic! ------------- http://lilypie.com"> http://lilypie.com">
