A lady at work told me today that first babies almost always arrive late - she said 99% of them will be overdue - is this true? Obviously situations vary I understand that but I was wondering for those of you who have already had first babies - was your baby on time or late?

My mum and grandma both had all their babies a couple of weeks early and I keep wondering if that will be the same for me.
I have had quite a few friends who have had their first babies early.
It is hard to know isn't it. The waiting at the end and not knowing when it will happen must be quite nerve wracking I think.

I've been told most first babies come late too so I'm preparing myself up for another month of being preggy and if bubs comes earlier then it will be a nice surprise

I was 3 weeks late when I was born. Depends on who you talk to about Andrew as to if he was on time of early. My dates and the midwifes dates Andrew was on time. To the hospital Andrew was early. I was only induced as I had pre-eclampsia.

caitlyn was 8 days over. First thing u learn about being a parent is kids are unpredictable and do not follow a set way to do things....some will be early some on time and some late....prepare urself for a wait but keep in mind that it could happen sooner

both of mine were early - i think it depends on the individual and history of the family and stuff, but can i say one thing... i cannot remember who said they were planning for another month of pregnancy - DON'T!!! plan as if you are going tomorrow - ie make sure everything is in place and ready cos when they come the last thing you need is to send hubby to do stuff cos chances are it'll be wrong and when you get outta hospital or whatever, you get home, things are just wrong, you are tired, you are sore and possibly around day 3, everything just falls apart.. so plan plan plan. In saying that, for the last 2 weeks make plans to do stuff and get out and about to fill your time waiting otherwise you'll go nuts.. and as it goes, the one day you plan something really kewl - will be the day you go into labour.

Zac was exactly 2 weeks early - although on the note on his cot at the hospital it said he was 3 weeks early (37 weeks). I say 2 weeks (38 weeks) cause my due date was the 14th of December and he was born on the 30th of November...no idea how they work those things out!

Just to add to what janine says - do plan to do stuff in those last weeks as waiting around sucks. And then everyone is ringing saying "have you had the baby yet", and every movement you think "is this it?". So plan to go out for tea, go to the movies (see something mindless so it doens't matter if you get up and go to the loo fifty gazillion times). I HATE waiting - especially as "we" decided not to find out the sex. I hate suspense.

ohh it was me! I said I was preparing myself for being preggy for another month - what I should have said was that we have EVERYTHING ready to go as if it were to happen today, but I'm mentally preparing myself that it COULD be another 4 weeks until bubs arrives. If I don't then I'll go insane - I'm one of those anal people that hates to be late for anything
