So what stuff does everyone else seem really into that you just don't get ifkwim.
For me at the moment its two things, I really don't get singstar or why every party has to have it and I really don't understand the excitement around twilight. I have seen the boys in it and they are just not that exciting.

We don't have PS in our house so we're clearly behind the times. we don't own an ipod or iphone and we don't have a flat screen / wide screen tv. Technology tends to advance quicker than my ability to learn it.
My teenage niece is the only one I know who is into Twilight. I figured it was aimed at them.

I don't get why people spend so much time getting so excited about greys, shorty or any of those soaps. Seems like such a waste of time to me. We just don't watch tv in the evenings.

I don't get demanding impatient people, why do they think their time is more important than anyone elses. I'm constantly having to be patient for people who have little or no patience for anyone else, really annoys me.

ohhhh no, I love Harry Potter , so I get why people love him, but Twilight ....thats a different story (no, really , it is, different characters, authors etc )
I read the books and they're ok , not awful, but certainly not the best thing i've ever read .
As for the movies...
THIS is my impersonation of Kirsten Stewart
*sullen voice, look constipated* " I " * swallow, clench teeth , twitch head * " love " * swallow, clench teeth , twitch head* " him " *swallow, clench teeth , twitch head*
And my impersonation of Edward
" Im a vampire, I look all mysterious and moody and have a habit of clenching my teeth too and I sparkle "
and Jacob
" oh look its hot, I'll take my tshirt off and bare my abs, oh look its raining, i'll take my tshirt off and bare my abs , oh look , i'll just take my tshirt off so you can all go , wow, thats pretty fit, then look at my face and remember im only 16 and you're just a big granny perve "

Lol Deb you should try living in the sticks, where people keep on driving through intersections regardless of what the lights are doing, and then get stuck in the middle of the road. Or people that drive at 80 on the open road usually farmers in brown utes, just cause they're only going a few metres down the road is no reason to drive slow. Gosh I live in a town without any lights only roundabouts which seem to confuse people.
I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, but I have seen all the movies and I do like them. I like seeing which british actor/actress is going to turn up in each one.
Lol Kelly I don't get twilight either, really isn't it for teenage girls

Why everyone flocked to see the lord of the rings trilogy. The whole story could be told in 90 minutes and still dragged on.
|
Posted By: scribe
Date Posted: 01 December 2009 at 1:14pm
I also didn't get the Lord of the Rings!
And oh yes do not get me started on NZ drivers - and it does seem to be worse in smaller towns, like people (my mother included ) who can't seem to stay in their lane, if there happens to be two lanes that means they should drive across both lanes ... and just the complete lack of courtesy, like not letting someone on to the road or allowing them to change lanes.
Yep Twilight is a waste of time. And I saw the movie and read the first book to make sure I wasn't just being a snob about it!
Masterchef Australia/Australian Idol/ stuff like that...

I loved Lord of the Rings, and going to the movies was a bit of a novelty, except now we have them on DVD and they're all at least an hour longer and thankfully can be paused for loo breaks. Seeing the last one at the Embassy in Wellington was really lovely such an amazing old theatre.
I love cooking programs, and enjoyed Aussie Masterchef once it got down to the last few contestants and became more about the food and less about them, I also watch Top Chef and River Cottage, Nigella anything with food.
DH has had some yummie dinners after I've been watching Masterchef and got inspired. I would have entered the NZ one if I could afford 2 months away from work and home.

Its cause your getting older Deb, Teenagers know everything and as I get older I realise how much I don't know.
I don't get people who dress their babies in those awful slogan t-shirts, even still the stores that are prepared to sell them. ipood and tit man aren't funny and you kid doesn't get a say in what they are wearing.

I don't get twilight.
I don't get people who are stressed at work and don't understand that everyone else is in exactly the same situation and are stressed too.
I don't get people who don't give a 'thank you' wave when you let them in while driving.
I don't get people who say things will be easier if my nearly 2 year old is toilet trained by the time the baby arrives (what the heck?! How is it easier having to rush a child to the toilet when you're in the middle of looking after a newborn, and plus risk him regressing?! Nappies is so much easier!)

Oh and I don't get why people buy their kids such expensive clothes, like all PP (fine for a few nice things) and have their kids in sposies then complain about not being able to afford a house because the kids cost so much! We're on a very average wage with 2 kids (and we're reasonably young) but we make sacrifices and have priorities, one of which is not having my kids as fashion statements, but making sure they're adequately dressed. People go on and on about how broke they are and how lucky we are - you make your own luck and work your butts off (and god forbid put your kids in clothes from Farmes, The Warehouse or off TM )
I don't get twilight either. The guys aren't even that hot IMO.

I don't get why people in sh*tty relationships bring kids into it and I don't get why people have more kids when they can't afford the ones they are already have.
I don't get why people have to cut me up when there is miles of clear road behind me.
I don't get why people have to beep me at intersections just because they don't want to wait 10 secs for me to go out in a space rather than kill me and everyone else on the road pulling into a gap that barely exists.
I don't get why only mcdonalds has a decent play area for kids, great for them, stupid on the part of every other cafe owner. Far more places i would choose to eat over mcdonalds if they had somewhere that the kids could be let loose in.
I don't get how we got sky tv and still have nothing to watch, will so be cancelling that when it comes up for renewal.
I don't get why people get a pet and they get rid of it again cos it's too much hassle, or it leaves fur on the floor, or it barks....what did you think a cat/dog would do?
I don't get the big deal about outrageous fortune

*gasps* Oh - OF is one of my all time fav shows EVER. Maybe you just haven't watched it enough (Says she who has seen every series at least twice, some 3 times... - yeah, yeah, I'm a bit obsessed...)
I don't get Twilight though. I was talking to someone recently who had a theory that all the 'hype' is just PR spin - that people actually aren't nearly as into it as is being made out...
I don't get rampant consumerism - buying crap that you don't need just for the sake of it. And I particularly don't get getting into debt just for the sake of owning material things.
I don't get 'fashion' in general. I mean, some things are stylish and look great, sure - but a lot of stuff out there at the moment is SO ugly! I mean, harem pants?! Really!?

I dont get why the dole is paid in cash when it could be paid in supermarket vouchers or direct payments for rent and utilities rather than drugs booze and cigarettes
I dont get why people judge how others raise their kids when the are just as happy and well looked after or maybe even more loved than that their own.
I dont get why DP felt the need to get 3 of the same ugly van and park them all in the driveway for the world to see and mock! hahaha

I don't get why young guys here wear their beanies when it's 30deg+, get a cap!!
I also don't get people who abuse petrol station attendants because they are in a hurry. That was a very very common occurance back when I worked at Caltex. If you are in such a hurry, make sure you have fuel BEFORE you plan to run from your home and make a mad dash to the airport! You don't get to push in line because you're stupid.
Oh! I also don't get adults who have 2 year old style tantrums in public because the carwash is broken.

Super funny about people being stressed out at work acting stressed out and all busy when we all are we just don't need to act that way.
So true about mcdonalds playgrounds too, I actually said to Dh we should go as they are so good and safe and we never eat at mcd's (dh hates it) so silly should be nice safe playgrounds somewhere else.

Also why Dh doesn't clean up the mess his children make, like cuppatea says - IT'S NOT HIDING! WHY should I have to clean it up ALL the time - his children TOO! And his OWN mess!!!!

I don't get why;
-People do burn outs on my road every time they go around the corner.
-People feel the need to comment & lecture me because I am a vegetarian.
- We celebrate Guy Fawkes at all and esp people who let them off during the day.
- Some people are constantly negative.
- People feel they have a right to an opinion on breastfeeding, cloth/non-cloth nappies, immunisations etc on anyone elses child but their own.
-My friends ask for advice/opinions on child related things only to tell me "I don't know what I'm talking about because I don't have a baby"
-My Mum still smokes when she is about to be tested for lung cancer.
- My husband uses a new towel EVERY time he goes into the bathroom.
- Why my kitchen sink only has hot water?
- Why sooooo many people say they got pregnant while taking the pill. Seriously. Just admit it.
- Why people wear pyjamas in public places such as supermarkets, malls etc.
- Twilight & Harry Potter. Lame.
- People pay to see a movie & then talk the entire way through it!
- Why I can't just have a baby like everyone (not quite but you know) else!
Think that is about it at the mo but I have WTF moments on a daily basis! Ha ha

Ahem! I like Star Wars and I'm not that old, well maybe I am.
Star Wars were the movies I watched as a kid, I had the figures and got mum to put my hair up like Princess Leia, my brother even had an Empire Strikes Back pillow case, sad I know but it was the 70s and most of that decade was pretty lame, not to mention the 80s.

ROFL Flake - you crack me up .
I wonder if that woman did try breaking down the wardrobe door? DH got locked in the bathroom a few months back while I was at work - it was in the morning and he was meant to be bringing Jimmy into town for his vaccinations. I'd just started wondering where he'd got to, when he phoned me in this really panicked state saying "I've just had to kick my way out of the bathroom!" The turning mechanism in the door knob had completely broken when he closed the door and there was no other way out. Jimmy was in the lounge and DH had no phone or tools in the bathroom, so he just kicked and kicked until he'd made a big enough hole to climb out. Thankfully the door was an MDF jobby, not solid rimu or anything .
Sorry, very OT. I don't get cellphones. We don't get reception here. Although yes, my lil brother gave me his old one when he moved to Oz, we NEVER use it. But everyone else in the world seems to have them permanently attached to their body like another appendage. There is a landline at work and in our house - if I'm not near them I don't want to talk on the phone, is that so wrong?

- why able bodied & young people park in disabled parks.
- why people who are obviously by themselves park in baby parks & they don't even have a carseat in the car to make it look like they might have a baby.
- why people get dogs & then rehome them in case they knock over the baby that isn't born yet & the dog is old.
- why people in cars smoke & then throw their butts on the road so the smoke smell fills my car
ditto to the white pants & DH's not seeing mess!

**NO OFFENCE INTENDED**
I really enjoyed the twilight movie but I sooo don't get adult women going bananas over the guys in it, its creepy, weird, and if it was a bunch of men going hysterical like that over 17 year old girls imagine the outcry?
I don't get why people who are constantly complaining or whatever about their financial state and lack of money etc yet continue to have children.
I don't get people who update their personal woes via FB status updates yet get upset when others weigh in with their opinions that you don't want to hear, don't put it out there? (and yes, i update my fb status with my woes, but can take the good with the bad)
And while im on the subject of the staus... I REALLY hate ambiguous status updates! I'm nosy, i wanna know! whats the purpose of ambiguity? lol
I don't get how people can afford to smoke, drink and take drugs but can't afford other stuff
i don't get hiphop/urban/rap music

I think it's like made-up stories by fans on the theme of the origninal book / movie / website, whatever. Like an shortened version of fan-fiction. So if I was to write a story about Edward and Bella (and oh, how lame mine would be! ) that would be fanfic. I don't get it either.

Lol fattartsrock, I don't get ambiguous FB status updates either... what is the point of announcing your status to the world if you don't want them to know?
I don't get why people think they know your situation and judge you for it, when they really have no idea.
I don't get when DH complains about what we don't have, when we have a nice warm house, food, loving friends and family, and two gorgeous children.
I don't get friends that offer to help out every time you see them, but then they act like it's atrocious when you actually take that offer.
I don't get that people complain about complaining, haha.
I don't get FB games like Farmville either!!

i love reading these!
will add my 2c in but i apologise if i offend anyone LOL
ok i love love love harry potter, star wars and LOTR have never seen / read twilight though. but i dont see what all the hype is about it.
i dont get why everyone expects me to have / want a career and be all career focussed, i dont care about all of that!
i dont get it how DF complains about having no money and then goes to buy takeaways more than once a week (although i have been guilty of that occasionally too LOL)
i dont get people that act like your friend when its convenient (i.e they dont have anyone else to talk to at a party or something) but when you actually try to make plans with them they dont want to do anything!
i dont get people that drive with their window wipers on full when there are 2 drops of rain on the windscreen
i dont get why people want to go out and get drunk every night of the weekend, every weekend and if you dont they call you boring and a nana
i dont get people that cant appreciate the world that they live in and stop to actually listen to the birds or look at the trees or flowers once in a while and think that nature is awesome
i dont get people that smoke around their kids.
i dont get people that pull U-turns around traffic lights when the sign clearly says no u-turns
i dont get people that blast their boom boom music when they have a baby in the back seat - yeah great thing to do to their hearing!
i dont get how some girls find the need to always hang their boobs out of their tops, there is such thing as dressing decently.
i dont get how you can be labelled "unstyley" just because you dont go out and buy all the latest fashions, some of which are absolutely HIDEOUS, not to mention flippen expensive! just wear what you want to wear!!
ok i think thats enough for now, im sure i have a lot more though!

I don't get why, when you dress your kids in PP, people assume you have spent a lot of money to do so.
I don't get why people who have kids still go out every weekend and get drunk, and then complain about having to listen to their child when they have a hangover.
I don't get Twilight or LOTR either. Never read the books or seen the movies...
I don't get why people want all the latest gadgets. We have friends who have the plasma TV, MySky, brand new lounge suite and everything else, yet complain about never having any money.
I don't get people who say they are TTC but then in the next breath tell you how they haven't BDed in months because they're too tired. Hrmm...can't really have one without the other???
I don't get why you can never win as a mum, whether you stay at home, or whether you go back to work. Either way, someone always has an opinion.
I don't get some of the little girl's clothes either!! I want my girls to look like little girls...not teenagers in the making at a year old!!!
I don't get why my MIL keeps going on about getting us a potty to use for the girls straight after their feed (as in, hold them over it until they go to the toilet). That's what nappies are for and I have enough cleaning and washing to do without adding a potty to it....!!!!

I don't get why you would get a dog if you rent, (and them complain) because
1) Many of the nicer rentals won't allow dogs
2) You get notice or give notice cos the house is a sh*tter but can't find another cos of said dog
3) you have to rehome poor dog - upsetting yourselves, the kids and of course the dog!
Why bother!

I definitely don't get Twilight. DH and I couldn't stand any more than an hour of the bad acting and boring story line. DVD got switched off. Not often (if ever) we do that.
But I LOVE Outrageous. Brilliantly written scripts.
I don't get the price of Trelise Cooper Kids.
I don't get Trelise Cooper.
I don't get why DH has to drive around and around just to get a park right outside the door when it would be quicker to park 30 metres away and walk.
I don't get the amount of people telling me I must be having a small baby. According to the scans, he's measuring 6 days bigger.

I don't get those above either. Who really has that much money for a kids dress that they will fit for how long?
And if you are going to the shopping mall you are going to walk around for about an hour or so, that 30 seconds walk to park a bit further away won't kill you.

i dont get why there are all these 5-10 year olds swearing like its no ones business
i dont get how children these days "need" every single type of toy on the market
i dont understand how some people criticise something that you do, and they turn around and do exactly the same thing
i dont get how if you are telling a story to someone about something that happened (for example cheating) and they say oh if that ever happened to me i would do this and this and oh you shouldnt have done what you did. how do they know what they would do in that situation if it has never happened to them? and who are they to tell you what they think you should have done
i dont get how parents buy their teenagers these $20,000 cars (for example an altezza) or else they get loans for them and then they go and write them off because they can't handle driving them...

I don't get the fact that if someone comes through a roundabout and doesnt use their indicator, and you hit them, it is YOUR fault for not giving way. If someone isnt using their indicator are we supposed to just sit at the roundabout waiting?
I dont get guys that wear their hats backwards and then cover their eyes from the sun with their hands. Turn your hat around buddy, thats what its there for.
I dont get Twilight. Actually I don't get how people can get so hyped up and obsessed about things that aren't even real. I like Outrageous Fortune, but I don't like the way DH rings me and tells me all about the characters as if they are real people! Same with Rugby games and men taking it out on us when the All Blacks lose. There are more important things in life than that surely.
I don't get why when someone is unhappy, they make you feel bad for being happy with your life. Just because your having a stink time doesn't mean Im not allowed to smile.
I dont get why DH's aunt makes fat jokes about herself and puts words in my mouth when shes reaching for her third piece of cake. "I know what your thinking and yes just say it, Im FAT!" she says. Well, I wasn't thinking that! Gosh woman do something about it, don't keep moaning to me about it!

I also don't get how you are expected to pay so much and wait so long for a 5 minute Doctor's appointment in which they don't address your concerns at all.
I don't get twitter either.
I don't get how money is a measurement of success in life.
I don't get how someone can blow you off for months and months and then for the 5 minutes they are available they expect you to be able to drop everything for them, when you ALSO have a busy life.
I don't get how our carpet is covered in crumbs and fluff when I only vacuumed ten minutes ago.

Kaiz - re the roundabout thing, you can actually get statements from the police about that and fight it. My friend got hit by a lady who had her indicator on to turn left then went straight through - the insurance company paid him out after he got statements from the police that it was illegal. The lady's defence was 'it was just my intention to turn, it didn't mean I had to'. Lol what an idiot. So if it did happen to you, you can get off paying.

I thought according to the highway code you are not suppose to rely on another drivers indicator and shouldn't assume they are turning and so shouldn't pull out until they actually start to maneouver. Same as at junctions cos someone could indicate to turn left and then pull over to the side of the road just past the turning cos they never intended to turn, or they are indicating left for the roundabout/traffic lights up ahead not the side road etc.
But I don't get how people don't know how to indicate correctly at roundabouts, it's not that hard people. Left for going left, right for going right and if you are going straight ahead don't indicate until you are going to exit (and then it is your left indicator not your right!). Tirade not aimed at anyone on here I am sure you are all wonderful drivers.
