one of the kids at Ethan's preschool just came back after chickenpox..although she is in the overs(and I'm talking to a teacher tomorrow to find out) he spends time over there so may have been exposed a week or two ago..

i had a really bad dose as a little kid..can i get it again? i understand its more of an issue when under 20 weeks? how long till he is definitely in the clear(will fidn out tomorrow how long ago the child had them.

Yes you can get it again - but that's only a very small section of the population that can. Most people can only get it once.

I *think* that the maximum time from exposure to spots is 21 days, and normally it develops at about 10-14 days.

From memory you are most contagious in the 5 days before spots appear.

Just going thru this at kindy as well (did a thread in toddlers about it ) I've had them twice so i'm not really worried! Incubation is indeed 2 weeks, they're contagious thruout that period. As soon as the last spot scabs over the kids can go back to kindy safely.
You should be fine seeing as you had a super bad dose.

It is at our kindy also & I guess everywhere else.

I am hoping DS3 gets it, better sooner than later, horrid disease.

DS1 got it when he was 4yr, new years eve, & DS3 was 3weeks & got 6 spots on his feet. The Dr had never seen a baby so young & he was BF. We were told he could get them again later & so far he has not, & he will be 5yrs next week.

My cousin got them at about 12 weeks pregnant and both her and the baby are fine. He is now a helathy 5 month old. The doctor wasn't worried about it at all. i don't think it is like getting measels.

im not really worried..though if E got it i prob would be.. i should have immunity..if E gets it i will get tested.. i know i have rubella immunity but not sure bout chickenpox..

chickenpox can cause same /worse problems than measles before 20 weeks but from what i understand now if you have had them you are likely to get shingles if you get anything ...though as bobbie said contact with CP doesnt cause shingles...so I'm just chilling about it till I see whether E has it..though its been two weeks already seems unlikely..:)

I got exposed when I was in my last trimester with C, and I had only had a mild dose as a kid, so I rang my MW and we got a blood test done to check immunity, and I was fine.
2 weeks exposure for E... when Jake came out with them, He had been playing with NZPipers baby the day (I think?) before, and Im fairly sure they all came out of that unscathed. He should be ok, hopefully.
Sucks, though! Hugs xx
