I use my Nana's...passed down on a handwritten piece of paper....then I discovered its the Edmonds cookbook recipe

I don't put the salt in mine. Mine seems a pretty easy recipe and I haven't had any trouble with it yet. Here it is for if you want to give it a go.
250g butter, softened
3/4 c icing sugar
1/2 c cornflour
1 1/2 c flour
Preheat oven to 150C. Beat butter and icing sugar together until creamy. Mix in the flours. On a floured surface, roll dough out to 1cm thick and cut into finger. Place on greased oven tray and prick with a fork. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until pale but crisp.

Big trick- dont handle too much- it makes the shortbread tough.
The gluten in the flour is activated and becomes elastiky, So if you want it 'short' dont knead it, just bring it together.
