About a month ago DH and I noticed a lump under Kayla's nipple.. I wasn't too worried as I had looked it up and apparently it is common and should disappear on its own. Anyway, took her to the doctor yesterday since it hadn't gone away and he also said it is probably nothing and will go away on its own..but that I could get an ultrasound to be sure.
Went and got it done this morning (she screamed the whole time).. the radiographer went and got the Doctor who told me that she basically has started to grow boobs (at least, one of them) already! She went on to say she has seen it before in teenage boys, but never a little baby girl (Kayla is 13 months).. As this shouldn't happen until they are teenagers. Still..nothing to worry about of course, but she said she will need to speak to the GP and figure out if they need to do anything. So.. anyone else's child have something like this? Kayla isn't upset by the lump..not painful or anything. You can visually see one side is a little bigger than the other and can definitely feel something underneath the skin. |

LOL yeah I'm worried she'll be in a bra when she's still in single-digit age!!
I did read a couple of things online which do tend to say it's ok, as long as it's not accompanied by other early puberty signs like periods and pubic hairs!! Imagine, a baby with pubes??!! |

Did the Doc say they're likely to go away, or not? Reuben grew lumps as a newborn... somewhat disconcerting! The Doc said it's just extra hormones floating about, developing these lumps that he called mammary cysts (but not the infected or dangerous kind) rather than boobs, said they were likely to be sore in the same way mine were thanks to breastfeeding, and that they'd go away. | Well the GP hasn't called me to discuss it further yet, but the other Dr said is isn't cysts or anything..rather actual breast tissue. So in this case it won't go away, she'll just grow into them (although hopefully they will stop growing for now).. |

Wow, the things that can go on with these littlies!
My sister started to grow breasts as a toddler but as you mentioned, she also had other puberty symptoms. She had a pile of endocrine issues and end up on hormone treatment to surpress the hormones (she started mentstrating at 4). Not sure why I mention that LOL as obviously Kayla doesn't have other puberty symptoms. Even if she did, they can control things until they are at an appropriate age for them. ------------- Mummy to Gabrielle and Ashley |

Oh man, 4 is so young to start getting periods!! Yeah I just hope she doesn't start with any other puberty symptoms..I guess it's hard to know if it could still happen because she is still quite young?
Anyway, the Dr rang today and said he's referring this case to a specialist. Turns out they really don't know what they're looking at..so I guess I'll have to wait and see if she's going to get more tests and a real diagnosis. Fingers crossed. |
